Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge — Attraction in West Virginia

We hiked the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Glade Run Crossing, Middle Valley, Sand Run, and Cabin Mountain Trail. Oh my gosh what a stunning hike! There is so much to see on this trail! Slow down and take your time you will be glad that you did. The weather was absolutely perfect. At every water crossing there is some type of walkway. We never got our feet wet. This is a great wildlife refuge in the most beautiful part of West Virginia. It's recently been expanded with excellent displays depicting the natural and cultural history of Canaan Valley. Stop at the visitor center and ask for a trail map to find out where to hike and explore. The refuge is also adjacent to Canaan Valley State Park which is a privately manager resort with a lodge, golf course, trails, camping, skiing, and more. Knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Great area for birding, recommend birding along the easily accessible areas of Cortland Road with trail access along the Beall Tract, Timberline Road, and the boardwalk on Freeland Road. More adventurous options but well worth the time are the areas and trails accessible off of A-Frame Road in the north end of the valley as well as the areas accessible off the end of Camp 70...
