This is one of the best courses I’ve ever played. It’s difficult, so bring your A-game. The greens are huge with many undulations and false fronts. It’s hard to score on this course, even for an experienced player. Make your birdies on #1, 3, 6 and 8 on the front. Pars on the rest are really good, trust me. Don’t test #5 unless you’re prepared to make double or worse. Birdie #11 and #12–give the bell a ring too—and get through #13-14 and stay safe on #15 for a potential birdie. Par on 16 is really good. And you might not think so, but par on #17 and the astounding finishing hole are excellent scores. Speaking of #17 the windmill is there for a reason. Ask a member about it. It’s a great story about an argument between Dye and the owner. Also, don’t forget to drop your complaints in the mail box on #4. That’s what it’s there for, and you’ll get a good laugh when you see it. After you play you can probably imagine why there aren’t many complaints about this course, no matter where the complaint box is. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about it being tough. If you test this course, you’ll most likely pay for it. But there’s always the greatness of Pete’s Place and the uniqueness of the refreshing “transfusion” adult beverage after your round. You’ll most likely enjoy the beverage(or two) while talking with your buddy on why you should have heeded the member’s warning in this Google review. What an amazing...
Read moreTerrible condition!!! This is a great layout with many great views. As you approach the club, it is striking with the holes sitting down in the valley combined with the backdrop of the West Virginia mountains. The clubhouse itself is attractive and clean with excellent views of the course. But beware, the fairways and greens are in terrible condition. I play golf on all sorts of courses, some expensive and exclusive and plenty of public courses as well. The greens were the worst I have played on in 2-3 years!!!. They have great shapes and contours but the grass was long, very patchy with weeds. So yes, expensive with a great layout but be prepared for well below...
Read moreLike any Pete Dye course you don't know what to aim at off the tee until you've played here a few times. Then once you learn to hit the fairway, what part of the green to put it on becomes your next problem as being at the wrong spot on the green almost ensures a three-putt. But just an excellent design hole after hole. The design has it all. Long, short, tight, open. Uphill, downhill. Dog legs left and right and even a cape or two. Almost always in excellent shape. Nice practice facility. Nice restaurant to grab a sandwich or dinner afterwards and watch the...
