it isn't your average thermal area. Sure, it boasts a dazzling array of colorful hot springs, mud pots, and geysers, but it offers a more intimate and serene experience compared to some of Yellowstone's larger basins.

A Colorful Tapestry of Geothermal Features:

Sapphire Pool's Allure: The crown jewel of Biscuit Basin is the mesmerizing Sapphire Pool. Its crystal-clear water shimmers with an otherworldly blue hue, a captivating sight that will leave you speechless.

Beyond Sapphire: The basin boasts a variety of other geothermal wonders. Expect vibrant orange and yellow hues from geysers like Jewel and Black Pearl, and the captivating textures of bubbling mud pots.

Easy Accessibility: A well-maintained 0.6-mile boardwalk loop trail allows visitors of all ages and abilities to safely explore the basin and get up close to these incredible geothermal features.

A Tranquil Escape:

A Breath of Fresh Air: Compared to some of the more crowded geothermal basins in Yellowstone, Biscuit Basin offers a sense of tranquility. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the geothermal wonders without feeling overwhelmed by crowds.

Family-Friendly Fun: The short and easy boardwalk trail makes Biscuit Basin a perfect stop for families with young children. Learn about the fascinating world of geysers and hot springs together.

Nature's Symphony: The sounds of gurgling hot springs, hissing steam vents, and the vibrant colors of the geothermal features create a symphony for the senses. Immerse yourself in the beauty and wonder of nature.

Biscuit Basin in Yellowstone is a fascinating and beautiful area… as of July 2024, it is closed due to a hydrothermal explosion that caused damage to the parking lot and boardwalk. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt… but the area remains off-limits for safety reasons. Our hearts go out to anyone who was injured or affected in any way.

Even though access is restricted, Biscuit Basin still offers an amazing visual experience… especially for photographers capturing it at night. The steam rising under the stars, the glow of thermal features, and the surrounding landscape make for incredible shots. It’s peaceful, surreal, and full of atmosphere.

The basin is known for vibrant springs like Sapphire Pool and small geysers scattered throughout… it’s a reminder of the raw power beneath the surface. Hopefully the area will reopen in the future once it’s safe again.

For now, it’s a place to admire from a distance… one that holds both natural beauty and a reminder of how powerful...

Three miles north of Old Faithful is Biscuit Basin, named for the unusual biscuit-like deposits formerly surrounding Sapphire Pool. Following the 1959 Hebgen Lake earthquake, Sapphire erupted, and the "biscuits" were blown away. Other notable colorful features in the basin are Jewel Geyser, Shell Geyser, Avoca Spring, and Mustard Spring. Sapphire pool was our favorite.

Large parking lot. Not too crowded during peak times. Well maintained boardwalk that is handicap accessible. I would...
