Gibbon Falls is definitely worth a stop when exploring Yellowstone. The waterfall itself drops about 84 feet and creates such a stunning view. What I love is it’s very accessible. No strenuous hike is needed. It is more of a short walk along the paved path from the parking area to the overlook so almost anyone can enjoy it.

Parking can be a bit tight during peak hours since it is a popular roadside stop, but if you go earlier in the day or later in the afternoon it is much easier to find a spot. Restrooms are available near the parking lot which is convenient before continuing your drive.

As for its history, Gibbon Falls was formed along the Gibbon River, which was named after Colonel John Gibbon, a U.S. Army officer who played a role in the 1870s campaigns in the area. The falls became an established roadside stop when the road between Norris and Madison Junction was completed, making it one of the easily accessible scenic stops in Yellowstone. To learn more about the history, there are interpretive signs along the overlook that share interesting facts, including how much they paid the mason to build the walls made of rock.

Overall, this is not a place where you will spend hours, but it is a beautiful and quick stop that adds a lot to your...

Gibbon Falls in Yellowstone National Park, Montana, is a natural attraction that showcases the power of water. The falls themselves are undoubtedly impressive, with water cascading down the rocky cliffs in a dramatic fashion. However, compared to other sights within Yellowstone, it didn’t leave as strong of an impact on me.

While the falls offer a pleasant setting and provide a momentary escape into nature, I found that the overall experience lacked a certain wow factor. The surrounding environment, though serene, didn’t captivate me as much as some of the other attractions in the park.

If you’re already in the area and have some spare time, it’s worth a visit to Gibbon Falls. However, if you have limited time in Yellowstone, there are other sights that may leave a more lasting impression. It’s important to manage expectations and understand that while the falls are beautiful, they may not be the highlight of your...

Gibbon Falls was one of the easiest and most rewarding stops we made in Yellowstone. You don’t have to walk far at all — the parking lot is literally right next to the viewpoint! No hiking boots, no steep trails, just step out of your car and bam—you’re looking at a stunning waterfall dropping 84 feet over a rugged cliff.

The view is incredible and super easy to enjoy for all ages and abilities. There’s a nice paved path along the edge if you want to stretch your legs a little, but honestly, the best view is right there from the main overlook. Quick stop, zero effort, major beauty....
