It's a basic park that ends on the water - there is a U shaped tended area with a wooded area taking the opposite space in the U, there is a small tennis court and a passable parking lot near the entrance but there is nothing drawing me back - as a park for a dog it's wide open but there's nothing of interest for my 4 legged friend as your basically making a large U in an open field with a wooded area blocking both U arms at some point. There are some flags as I recall and some rocks near them but the land is flat. It would probably be a good place to play soccer on a half field or a great place to launch a drone or race RC planes but it's not exactly close to anything so I suspect it a compliance park for future development in the adjacent open areas.
Not bad but not good - no idea what's the connection with freedom nor veterans either but you have to give every park a name so...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful places I have ever been in the USA. Don't miss out! Just a few minutes from downtown. Spectacular views from the reservoir, magical trails through the woods. I spent about 5 hours trekking around and I just couldn't leave, although it was very hot and humid that day and I didn't even had a bottle of water with me! I would give it 10 stars if I could. Bring water and some snacks. Please, leave NO GARBAGE behind. When you walk through the entrance from the main road, it looks like an empty, boring park. But keep on going down hill until you reach the water edge. That's when the magic begins. Then just follow the trails around the woods. There are lots of bird life. Including swans, ducks, white Egrets, Red Tail hawks and much more. Also, shy rabbits, colorful frogs, toads, squirrels, fish, light blue dragonflies, butterflies, etc. A little piece of...
Read moreGood park for being active. Important to note it is a park and not a playground, no slides or a swing set! There is a well paved tennis court, a large field, and the start to a trail along Mill Pond. Little things are well maintained: parking is easy, even the porta potty seeks to be cleaned regularly. Considering how many dogs walk the park, very little dog poop. Dog owners seem generally respectful here. It is a very good entrance for starting the Charm Bracelet trail, which is a trail that can be long or short and is easy enough for kids. Less related to Veterans Park but good to know before you go, the Charm Bracelet could use some updated marking once you get to the Otis Street Bridge. This trail is nice to walk across seasons and can be slightly muddy.. but the small bridges are...
