The Northern Ohio Railway Museum (aka NORM) is open every Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM, May through October only. Volunteers staff the place: store, walking tours, streetcar rides, and restoration/maintenance. The project is huge requiring copious amounts of time and money to undertake restoration of equipment and expansion of the facilities. Northeastern Ohio natives will recognize rapid transit trains spanning their lifetimes from CTS to RTA. Much older cars offer a nostalgic view of the past when high-speed (60 MPH+) Intraurban service carried passengers between Ohio cities. Because of resource shortfalls most of the rolling stock is in need of repair and restoration but that does not diminish the interest the place holds for streetcar and trolley fans. I have been a railroad enthusiast for 40 years and have only recently discovered them. I was quite surprised to see how much equipment they actually have there, all in different stages of preservation. It was an enjoyable, leisurely experience with knowledgeable volunteers who are rail fans just like us. They enjoy talking trains and are dedicated to preserving one of the very things that made our country great. Read moreGoing here was a horrible experience. You must park about a quarter mile from the facility and walk in the heat/humidity over uneven terrain. There is no bathroom, but an outhouse. There is no air conditioned place to wait or walk through. The benches to wait for the trolley are all outside in the sun/rain. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place to visit.
