Spectacular view of Lake Willoughby from the overlook at the top. It took my wife and I (both over 65 and not good hikers) about 5 hours round trip including lunch on the top. We hiked the South trail and when we got to the top discovered that there is no view from the summit but to our delight about 15 minutes from the summit on the North trail there is a wonderful outlook where you can see the entire lake from an altitude of 2600 ft. So, if your are coming from the South you simply walk 1000 ft further than the summit along the North trail to reach the ledge above the lake. P.S. Read moreHad a great hike along the south trail, which we heard was slightly easier than the north trail (which was supposedly a little steeper). It took us a little over an hour to reach the summit (being experienced hikers). The lookouts along the way are much more enjoyable than the summit itself (a large rock surface with an average view) which was slightly anticlimatic. Once you're at the top it's worth it to go the extra few hundred meters to the west lookout which is awesome and gives a wider angle than the previous ones. Read moreThe Mount Pisgah Trail is a beautiful hike, but be ready for a steady climb — it’s a bit steep in places and gets rocky near the top. The forested path is shaded and peaceful, and the views from the summit are absolutely worth the effort, with sweeping panoramas of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It’s a moderate challenge, but manageable if you take your time. Parking is easy, and the trailhead is well-marked. A great hike for anyone looking for exercise with stunning views as the payoff!
