Lost power - pets in RV put at risk.
In our hundreds of days on the road, staying in all types of RV parks and campgrounds, this has never happened and it shook us up. We returned from a day in the city to find our RV well over 90 degrees and food in our fridge spoiled. Our pets were just getting to the point of distress when we found the campground electrician 3 sites down, repairing the issue. Turns out 3 sites are combined on one circuit breaker that only holds 100 amps. So when a Class C came in and hooked up with 50 amps and their dual AC units, plus the guy next to us running a water purifier, satellite dish, toys, etc, it was too much and the breaker burned out. The power was apparently out for a few hours during the heat of the afternoon.
The office staff was apologetic but would not refund all our money when we said we were too concerned to continue site seeing and leaving the RV with our pets, unmonitored. (Only after complaining a second time were we given an address and a form, so now we have to write a letter to appeal for a refund.)
As others said, lots of hurricane damage but saw workers clearing it up. Trails are pretty much unhikeable so we walked the roads instead. Lots of bugs!!! Found them in the cats water dish, in our bed and on the counters one morning and spent hours cleaning. Laundry area was decent thank goodness. Cell service was quite low.
Really pay attention to the instructions on how to get into the park after hours, if you plan to come back after 8. It’s tricky and would be extremely hard in the dark.
TOURISTY INFO: Still the best RV place for seeing New Orleans without staying in an expensive, loud, dirty and crime ridden city location. Even being a weekend, we had no issues with congestion or parking a huge truck downtown, which was a major concern of ours. We decided to head to the downtown at 8am and parked on the residential streets of the Garden District, which was much easier than anticipated. Locals confirmed it was free parking on side streets and we were right next to Lafayette Cemetery for a walking tour.
Used a $3 daily zippy pass to ride the street car to/from the French Quarter, which was a nice and unique experience in itself. Gotta say, walking Bourbon Street was a first and very last experience for us. Never again! Soooo dirty, extremely loud and just couldn’t handle all the little kids drumming on buckets on every corner, being peddled by their parents for money. We cut our trip to NOLA short as a result of all the above and will be hard pressed to return. But, you have to do it at least once -...
Read moreMy family and I stayed here again recently because we had such a wonderful experience a couple of years ago. This visit was very disappointing based on a few factors. We choose cabins because we're anglers and catching fish is our number one priority!! Due to swamp boat tours about every fifteen minutes or so catching fish was off the table. In the past the boats weren't allowed to come near the cabins, now they're allowed to come a few feet away from the cabins. These boats run at least eight hours during the day, not only do they cause the fish to scatter, they create so much noise pollution and invade on the privacy of vacationers!! This should not be allowed!! The overgrowth of vegetation around the cabins could/should be better maintained or they should discontinue to advertise the fishing aspect of the cabins. The patio doors were only attached by one door hinge, which was dangerous and provided zero security for our fishing gear and coolers. This issues was reported to the office but was never addressed by any of the staff. There was a company there hired to pressure was the cabins, who was instructed to wash the cabin down while we were there. One of the guys started the process but refused to continue because we were still there, I appreciate him making his decision not to continue. He did however continue to pressure wash the cabin next to us; more noise pollution. The most disgusting part of our stay was the dirty towels!!! Presented as clean towels, folded neatly but with black spots on them; only God knows what those spots were!!! I decide to wash one to see it the spot would come out and it did!!😲 I'm not sure what their process is for cleaning their linens but it should be updated asap!!! If you decide to stay here, bring your own linens, Lysol, don't expect to fish from the cabin and do expect constant noise from the swamp boats, no peace and quiet until after...

I can't comment whether the issue is fixed as I haven't been out to the cabins, but I very much appreciate them treating people properly. I respect that very much. We'll definitely be back to the LA state parks again.
We had a pretty good family reunion down here. Local air boat tours was a blast for adults and kids, costly though. The guides are super knowledgeable on the wildlife and show it to you. The cabins at Bayou Segnette State Park are hit or miss. For one, the area typically floods (no big surprise) so bring boots and have maw-maw ready to potentially walk through 4-8" of water just to get up to the cabin ramp. But, DO NOT RENT CABINS 1 - 4!!!!! We rented those. Thankfully #1 was deemed "uninhabitable" by the front desk without any other info. Cabins 2 - 4 were INFESTED with water beetles and had 3 - 4 dead termites found on the master bed daily (falling out of the air vent). The beetles don't bite, thankfully, but they will make most folks squeamish. I'm talking about finding anywhere from 40 - 50 beetles dead or scurrying around per day, mostly in the master bed room, but anywhere the AC vents are open. This was a total surprise to us and a huge dampener on our family reunion. Otherwise the facilities inside the cabin were nice (oven, microwave, shower, toilet, etc.) and the place didn't smell bad. The fishing was pretty decent off the porch, caught a 25lb catfish, lots of really small ones that are perfect for the kids, and a bunch of tiny crabs. Keep supporting LA state parks, but please DO NOT rent cabins 1 - 4 here. We've involved the LA Lt. Governor and have yet to hear back from him. We've also involved management from the state park and haven't heard back from them either...
