Forts Toulouse and Jackson were at best alright. I am not downplaying their history nor their importance at all. It is obvious though, that despite being on the National Historical Registrar neither the State nor the Nation have done much to preserve these pieces of history. The people who worked there that I met, where passionate about the sites and were more than happy to discuss the history and significance of the Forts and the Indian mound. The state needs to invest in places like this so that they can be better preserved for future generations. This is a beautiful piece of land and makes an excellent picnic spot. I would recommend this a great place to bring children interested in history for a picnic then a historical walk. More developed sites can be a bit much for children who want to get more exposed to history, Fort Toulouse is a great way to start them out without overwhelming them. Easily done in an hour or two, Forts Toulouse and Jackson and the Mississippi Indian Mound has a little something for every history lover. Entrance fee is $2, they do take the four major...
