We were so excited to attend the barefoot grape stomping today for our girls' weekend in honor of our friend's 50th birthday. We traveled 1.5 hours and booked an overnight stay, all revolving around this visit.
The presentation of the history of the vineyard was well done and the instructional portion of the wine tasting was interesting and informative.
The staff was absolutely lovely.
Unfortunately, the food was inedible. How in NJ can you possibly mess up chicken parm and pasta? I could smell the Shop Rite jarred sauce coming from the kitchen and they didn't even have parmesan cheese for the overcooked mushy penne. They tried to pass off King's Hawaiian rolls with butter and garlic powder as garlic bread. (What?!?) I tried to choke it down but it was impossible. The only decent part was the brownie cake with fresh whipped cream at the end.
Sadly, the 7 wines were truly hard to swallow. The 5 of us were unable to find even one of them enjoyable. They didn't provide crackers or any kind of palette cleanser between tastings, except water, and there was maybe two tiny sips per round with no offer of a refill.
Despite the disappointment, we were still looking forward to the main event. We were brought into a hallway with a small plastic bag lined bucket/half barrel. One person at a time was able to stomp around for a couple of minutes. Truth be told, I could have done the same in my yard with a garbage can. Perhaps our expectations were high, but for $50 a person, something should have been palatable. Just one single thing.
On another note, if you plan to attend an event, be sure to pay attention to the cancelation policy. We reached out on Monday to let them know we had 2 friends who couldn't make it. They gave us a credit to use in their store (much appreciated) but because we didn't like the wines, it was challenging to use up $100. And their tshirts had an expression on them that would only work for married women.
Good thing we had good company and managed to laugh about the sadness of the situation or today would have...
Read moreIf you want bland food poor service and to bicker with staff this is the place to go. I threw my sisters 40th here and it was an awful experience. When I initially booked the pavilion I was told that the outdoor bathrooms would be available. The day of the event they were locked and Amy the one who lead our wine tasting was rude and said the plumbing wasn’t working which was a lie because we were later told the bathrooms open in June. I would not have booked this event if that was relayed to me initially. I worked with Kathryn for weeks up until the event who was nice but really wasn’t sure about much as she needed to confirm everything I asked. I was charged half of the event up front and informed once I have final count I would be charged the rest . However I was automatically charged and over charged at that. I told Kathryn I didn’t want the table cloth colors the vineyard offered and would bring my own. The day of the event I arrived and tables were set up with black table cloths. When I informed Amy that I didn’t want the tables that color she said I should have provided the table cloths the day before which was never expressed to me. Amy was very rude and started to bicker with me so I just ignored her. She texted the entire time my sisters and I set up our party. I was told they would have a desert table and Amy said the extra table was for the wine and we would just need to use half of it. In addition the appetizer selection I chose was supposed to come with chocolate cake which we never got. We had food left over and I wasn’t provided any left over boxes though I paid for the food. I was really hoping to have a good experience as I live very close and would have continued attending and hosting events. The wine was decent so it’s really unfortunate that it’s so poorly run. However they will not be getting anymore of my business. If I could have given negative stars for my...
Read moreNot sure how the wine is as we never got to taste it due to the terrible workflow they have for tastings - we left after having been there for over 30 minutes with no wine and still 3 more couples in front of us. Let me describe it as we saw today with my wife.
Pretty dumb system overall, the patio looks like it's nice, could be a good setup, the wines look cheap but at 8 "tastings" for 5 each we know we're not looking necessarily for quality - if you like sweet wine might be worth checking out as that's what they mostly seem to have.
Anyway, waste of time, stupid system, could be run so much better and more efficiently and this has nothing to do with covid, etc. Won't ever return and will steer all clear...
