This was SOOOO much fun!! Highly highly recommend! I purchased our tickets in advance on-line. I was up in the air about this since it was a $27 fee to do so. Nonetheless, I went ahead with it and I’m actually glad I did. Even though it was a high service fee, I spent less money booking everything on-line. They have a family 4 pack that they don’t offer (at least it’s not listed on the price board) at the park which was cheaper than buying individual tickets. I also bought 2 souvenir cups and 8 bags of food on-line with my tickets. The bags are smaller than brown paper lunch sacks, but filled pretty good. The cups hold about the same amount as the paper bag. They also offer a souvenir bucket of feed at the park, that they didn’t offer on-line. The nice thing about the cups/bags of feed is when you go to the counter to redeem them, because we had 2 cups and 8 bags of food, we got 2 reusable bags that they put these into that I didn’t have to pay extra for. They have several different animal options and they are all very cute. I did not buy the slobber towels on-line, but wish I had. I figured these were just plain throw away towels, but nope, they of course were also super cute. They were $3.99 on-line and $4.99 at the park. You cannot buy them on-line unless you are buying tickets (I tried lol) - so I did buy 2 of them at the park. I originally had planned to drive my own vehicle through the park. When we got there, we were parked in one of the lots and one of the bus tour guides overheard us talking. He directed us to a closer parking lot, the building where you purchase your tickets and the bathroom building. He also recommended that we didn’t drive our own vehicle through. When I told him that was our plan, he wished us luck lol. He was very kind, informative and it definitely was not a “sell” to rent their park vans. Just a friendly suggestion. We drove over to the closer parking lot, and viewed not only the park vehicles you can rent, but also other park goers personal vehicles they drove through the park. We decided it was best to rent one of the park vehicles 🤣🤣🤣. There were 5 of us, so we rented the 6 person minivan. The front windows roll all the way down, the middle windows roll about 3/4 of the way down and there is no window glass in the back seat. So there was a desire for everyone to be near the completely open windows lol. But the middle windows turned out to be fine not rolling all the way down. There are bars over the windows, which actually turned out to be a good thing as we watched some animals stick their heads quite far into some personal vehicles lol. When we decided to rent the vehicle, it was only $30 to rent the minivan - and yes they do ask for your insurance company name only, but this is only if you drive into someone’s personal vehicle. So don’t drive like an idiot and pay attention. If you want the 12 person van, it’s only $40. We put our name on the list for the rental, as we had to wait about 40 or so minutes for one to return. But that wasn’t a big deal. We spent our time watching vehicles enter the drive tour and taking photos and flattening pennys in the penny machine. Oh - and the tour bus is free and included in the purchase of your ticket. We took our time and it took us about 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hours to drive through. Some people did seem to get impatient behind us, but we pulled over where we were able to and just kept doing our thing. I didn’t spend all that money to rush through it. There is also a small walk through area. It was pretty muggy and on the warmer side the day we went, the spring time might be a better weather option for some - but I personally was fine with it. My kids would have preferred cooler weather lol. Everyone working at the park was incredibly nice and helpful. It was so much fun and I would definitely do this again. It was a blast and all 5 of us grown up kids loved this so much. My kids are grown, but I truly wish I had thought of doing this when they were little. You truly won’t be disappointed and we can’t wait to...
Read moreA place perfect for animal lovers! We went on a Saturday afternoon, and I had already mentally prepared myself for it to be crowded, but to my surprise, it wasn't crowded at all. It's like a mega drive thru petting zoo. If you would like to feed the animals, you will have to purchase the pebbles they sell (for the safety of the animals), but they give you a good amount in the bags, I would suggest purchasing at least 2 bags or more. You have the option of riding their school bus (extra cost), renting one of their vans (extra cost), or driving your own vehicle (free but at your own risk). Whatever option you choose, you will still have to pay $26+ per person (depending on the pkg you purchase), even if you decide to take the risk and drive your own vehicle. I think it may be cheaper to buy online, but I'm not completely certain. For a family of 4, we spent a little over $130 (everyone wanted their own bag of food to feed). We chose to drive our own vehicle, and I'm glad we did because it was hot outside, and the busses are old and you can't get as close to the animals (although they suggest you not pet the animals, drop the food on the ground and let them come eat that way). The rental vans look like they have been in their share of car accidents and one crank away from the junk yard (probably damage by the animals, I would guess), but they do the job. There's a massive amount of trees down everywhere due to a tornado which they haven't recovered from yet. It took us about 1.5 hrs. to drive the entire route because of the slow speed and all the stopping along the way to feed the animals. BE CAREFUL because the animals will walk infront of your vehicle and closely beside it; if you're not careful you can run them over. You can tell the animals are use to human interaction because they stand along the roadway waiting for you to stop, and then they walk right up to you. Warning, they will put their entire head in the vehicle and invade all of your space; lucky for us, none of them were aggressive, they just wanted food. There's a restaurant where you can purchase food for yourself (the traditional hot dogs, burgers, fries, nachos and pizza). The food is not too overpriced, but definitely more than you would pay at a regular drive thru restaurant (which was too be expected). You can take your own food and sit outside in the picnic area to enjoy, or you can cool off by sitting inside (limited seating). There's a small walk through "zoo" where you walk and see the enclosed animals (not much too see- the only disappointing part to me). Your car will definitely need a good wash afterwards because you will have dirt, mud and animal slobber everywhere (potentially on you too). I highly recommend you to visit Wild Animal Safari IF you're not scared of animals (unless you're going to drive the path with your windows up the entire time, which takes the fun out of it). Even though I was disappointed with the "zoo" part, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, they're still trying to recover from the storm which probably made them have to close off alot of things. Other than that, the staff was friendly and we really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely worth the 1.5 hr drive and definitely deserving of a second trip once they...
Read moreI visited today with my two granddaughters and their grandfaTHEr. We were able to go online prior to the visit and see they were running a promotion, where everyone pays kids price, so our total cost was $115. When we arrived, the young lady at the ticket counter (A'Daijah) was very helpful. We purchased the bag of food to feed the animals, and it was $6.75. They also sell slobber towels, but we had brought our own hand towel, along with sanitizer and wipes.
We decided to ride the bus which runs every 30 minutes, and is included in the ticket price. We were 25 minutes from the 12 pm bus, but the line was too long, and we had to wait for the 12:30 bus. While we waited we decided to visit the Walkabout area, where there was a baby giraffe, an alligator, lemurs, peacocks, and other small animals. All of these creatures are kept in reasonably small enclosures, especially the alligator, tiger, lion, very depressing to see. The gift shop is expensive, as all gift shops at these kinds of places are, and the young lady working there was as depressing as the Walkabout area.
Once we got on the bus, our driver was very knowledgeable and humorous. I wish I remembered his name (I think it was Jack) as I meant to cash app his tip and forgot. He was the one who says he always wears low top FILAS. Seeing the animals up close was impressive and girls enjoyed it a lot, as they were able to give some food out.
We actually were going to drive our own vehicle, but a few of the patrons inside said that wasn't a good idea, as the animals may ram your vehicle, scratch it with their horns, or slobber in the car, so we opted against it, but their were several people in their cars. You can also rent one of their vans for $30, but their was a wait list. Using your own car, you can go around more than one time, but the bus is once around, and I belive the rental vehicles are also one trip around, but we may go that route next time.
The bathrooms were pretty dirty with toilet paper and water on the floor. Also the stalls are pretty small and tight, not sure they're made for adults.
I will add that the young people working at the cafe and the gift shop, are not very personable or maybe I expected more "happy". You get no smiles, no "hello", nothing. And the cafe is fairly expensive. The exception was the young man at the Dippin Dots counter......very friendly. Next time we'll pack lunch and sit at the picnic tables.
Overall, it was worth the 2 hour trip from Decatur, GA. By the way, we did not use the whole bag of food, so I gave it to some folks waiting in the ticket line. Granddaughters were watchin animals and...
