Old Site Of San Gabriel Mission — Attraction in Whittier Narrows

Here in Montebello at the intersection of Lincoln Ave and San Gabriel Blvd is a historical site known as the Old Site of San Gabriel Mission.. San Gabriel Valley's first Mission built in 1771.. not much here besides this small historical site and active oil wells that are in the hillsides above.. This intersection is also used frequently everyday by cyclist like myself.. across from this Historical site is the entrance and intersection to the Rio Hondo bike path and the San Gabriel River...

This marker is not positioned exactly where the mission once stood. The original San Gabriel Mission, known as Misión Vieja, was actually a humble adobe structure covered with thatch, or tule reeds, and likely located in a field on the other side of the road, near the banks of the river. it's actually the original site of the San Gabriel mission. there isn't much to see besides the plaque and the sign. i wish they would give something this historic a little more significance but i guess it's better than knocking it down. the parking here is...
