This is an incredible trail to see Whittier! The waterfall and cove at the end was a blast! However, if your coming onto this trail in your nice hiking books… forget about it. My family called this trail the Xtratuf trail because it is impossible to not get your feet covered in mud at least at some point but it’s definitely worth it when you get to the end. Also if you’re bringing young kids will definitely need some endurance and good attitudes to get through the mud👍

Read moreEmerald cove trail is located in Whittier Alaska. Is about an hour outside of Anchorage, not counting the trip through the tunnel ( add an additional 15 to 25 minutes for that). There's a tunnel fee. Once inside Whittier make a right up the hill and into town. You'll find emerald cove trail. Read moreVery muddy, not good if you are just visiting. There trail is very long as well. There are lots of berries on the trail. We saw locals come here with buckets to pick berries.
There is a small water fall before you reach the first cove. The view is good, but there are many great trails with better views in Alaska. Not worth the effort and getting muddy over.
