We took a chance and went on a small adventure today! This place is off the beaten path but was well worth it. The people who work and operate the mine are very friendly and knowledgeable and have big plans and dreams to make this a Wickenburg destination. The road is not for the faint of heart, and a high clearance vehicle is needed. We made the trip with a GMC Sierra and a Toyota 4runner. We did use 4x4, but it was not technical and for better traction. It is a single lane but well graded. We did the mine tour, it was 10.00 a person and was about 30 minutes. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. They clearly have a passion for mining and sharing that experience with others. We showed up during their posted hours without prior contact or a reservation/appointment (like I said, we just took a chance and are so glad we did). Despite it being a mine site, it's easy to tell the amount of work they have put in and continue to put in to make the area compatible to welcome guests. Check out their Facebook page. We look forward to the progress they make as they improve the area. In total, we spent about an hour on site. It's a beautiful spot with amazing views and unique history. We even got to pet...
Read moreMy wife and I showed up on a Sunday afternoon, and were lucky enough to receive a private tour from the owner herself, Kathy. She was full of knowledge, completely down to earth, and was VERY generous with her time, not to mention that her husband and her have decided to share their slice of paradise with the world. Great people, we had such a lovely afternoon and learned so much! They are full of plans that sound incredible for the future, including the “world of music” part, and we will be back guaranteed when some of these plans come to fruition. But we HIGHLY recommend coming and checking this place out before it blows up with tourists. Hands down one of the coolest adventures we’ve had, especially with the company of Kathy. The road in is very well maintained until about the last two miles. We do have a low clearance car (5.5”) and we bottomed out a total of 3 times, which we are used to just driving around town, so it is doable just accept that as part of the incredible...
Read moreDrove there in a Chrysler Pacifica van with 4 adults. No problems at all driving there. Took it slow and watched for dips and rocks. Goggle maps took us straight there.
Don't deviate from the route. Seen an old lady that really shouldn't have been driving at all up there. She drove off into some sand, Linda.
Really great scenery, took lots of pictures on the way. Showed up within the stated operational hours, but no one was there. Spoke with the family camping at the top of the hill, and apparently, the owner was feeling under the weather and didn't come in.
Gave it the 3 stars because it's in a really neat area, and it looked like it would have been a great time. I'll have to try it again the next time I'm in Arizona.
Anyone reading this and thinking of going, I'd highly recommend calling first, and also wearing some big kid pants as my passengers were a bit squeamish on some parts of the road.
If you see Linda, just keep going, she's really mean to people trying...
