Just outside Burlington, VT in Williston is a fantastic xc ski place. Catamount Outdoor Family Center. They offer fat tire biking trails and snow shoeing as well. Stay tuned to our podcast as we cover this amazing spot !

This was a wonderful place to have my first ever snowshoeing experience. The day we went was excellent and a good number of other groups were also making good use of the trails. It was $15 a person to rent snow shoes for the whole day, although I think they also have a program where you can pay a smaller fee to access the trails with your own equipment. Staff had not had a chance to go around and establish all the trails when we went, but over the course of the morning, more and more paths opened up.

This is a great place for all who want to get out in nature but still need a more modifiable approach to wilderness walks. Although the path markings may be a bit unclear without a guided map, there are plenty of trails you can follow without feeling like you are off the beaten path. Beautiful views of the Winooski River and Camel's Hump at the "Lookout" should you follow the trails up there.

My wife and I with my ADA Service Dog was denied access by an older gentleman in the toll booth. He told us we could use Gov Chittenden Rd, that the Town of Williston has that policy. I find it disheartening that a disabled veteran with an ADA service dog on Memorial Day weekend can't even walk your paths. His excuse was that bikers and people walking the paths, could be disturbed by my Service Dog. This is an unacceptable policy, Town of Williston "Supports and Thanks Veterans for their Service., but you're unwelcome with your service dog." If I could rate negative...

My daughters (8 and 11) did the winter wanderers camp over February break and had an amazing time. My main goal was to get them them both excited about cross country skiing, which was a success. They also loved learning about nature and were super excited to share their new knowledge (identifying animal footprints, etc.) with us at the end of every day. The camp counselors did a great job pacing the days, so they did a lot and spent a lot of time outside without the camp being overly exhausting...
