I recently visited Comal Park on a beautiful sunny day and overall, I had a pleasant experience. However, there were a few drawbacks that I couldn't overlook during my visit.
One of the biggest disappointments was the condition of the lake. The water level was incredibly low, which took away from the scenic beauty that is often associated with Comal Park. It was disheartening to see the exposed lake bed and limited aquatic life. As someone who enjoys boating and water activities, this was a major drawback for me.
Despite the low water levels, the park itself was well-maintained and had plenty of amenities to offer. The picnic areas were clean and well-equipped with tables and grills, making it a great place for families and friends to gather and enjoy a meal together. The park also had a well-maintained playground for children to enjoy.
The walking trails at Comal Park were a highlight of my visit. They were well-marked and offered scenic views of the surrounding nature. It was a peaceful and relaxing experience, providing a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The park staff was friendly and helpful, providing information and guidance when needed. They were knowledgeable about the park's facilities and made the overall experience more pleasant.
One aspect of Comal Park that I appreciated was the attention to safety. There were clear signs indicating the rules and regulations, ensuring that visitors had a safe and enjoyable time. Additionally, there were lifeguards present near the small beach area, which provided peace of mind for those who wanted to swim in the lake.
However, it's worth noting that due to the low water levels, some activities such as fishing and boating were not as enjoyable or accessible. It would have been helpful if the park had provided alternative options or communicated the state of the lake before my visit.
Overall, while Comal Park had its shortcomings, it still offered a pleasant outdoor experience. I would recommend visiting during a time when the lake is at a higher level or taking advantage of the walking trails and picnic areas if water activities are limited. It's a place worth exploring, but I would suggest checking the lake's water levels beforehand for a more...
Read moreThe park entrance lady was very sweet and friendly. The park is so clean and well kept. You can tell that it is really cared for.
There are several places to set up and swim but we chose the rock ledge area. We loved it! It is a long rock ledge hundreds of yards long on one side of the peninsula. The park was so clean and well kept. I cannot emphasize that enough.
The rock ledge has a natural step that runs along the edge and it’s perfect for sitting or wading. We could see many small fish and my daughter enjoyed trying to catch them.
We spent the afternoon diving in from the rocks. The water is pretty deep and neither of us could touch bottom. The water is cool but not cold and it was 100°. Water felt about 72°. The water is so clear you could drink it. I think this would also be a fun place to snorkel. We felt very safe in the water. The location is away from most passing boats. It was like a nature overload.
The park wasn’t crowded and there were plenty of places to set up comfortably. We went in a Thursday afternoon last week.
Diving in from the rocks felt like a cool rush around my body. I’ve never enjoyed swimming in a lake this much. When we got out, we felt refreshed and cool, unlike other lakes where you feel disgusting and stinky. There is NO FOWL SMELL in this water. It’s like clean cool bath water. Wow!
I cannot say enough about this park. We’ve decided to make it a tradition to...
Read moreWe visited Comal Park, Canyon Lake 6/13/2024, paid $20 a car load. We were not informed about how low the water actually was, and we were completely shocked! We drove to side where signs said “swim beach”, but went to the left side where the little island is, but as we got closer, we didn’t see any water! Then turns out the water dropped like 20 feet, we had to climb DOWN the cliff/ rock wall to actually get in the lake. It was pretty scary and dangerous to climb down… but we wanted to make the best of our visit. My husband had to climb down first and placed rocks to create steps for me and my kids to climb down. As we finally got down, the water was so nice, clear and good temperature. It was still deep water, but not what we were used to. Just about three years ago, the water was above the rocks, and we were able to sit down on rocks and it was so nice and enjoyable. Now, it’s slippery and dangerous trying to climb DOWN the cliff rocks just to get in the water. Then at 6:00 the park rangers are driving around shouting “time to go, parks closing” but signs says closer is 7:30. The restrooms are disgusting.
I will probably not go back.
In the pictures, you’ll see all the rock along the wall, the water used to...
