Wind Point Lighthouse stands like a sentinel on the shores of Lake Michigan, a place deeply etched into our memories. We visited on a calm morning when the air was cool, and the light from the rising sun bathed the lighthouse in a warm glow. Its historic presence pulled us in, offering a glimpse of the past when this beacon guided ships safely along the rocky shoreline.
Walking along the grounds, we could feel the stories held by the towering structure, its whitewashed walls standing strong against the elements for over a century. The well-manicured gardens and peaceful surroundings added to the experience, giving us a moment of reflection, as we listened to the soft lapping of the water against the rocks.
The lightkeeper's house, a charming building now serving the community in various ways, felt like a bridge between the past and present. We imagined the lives lived here, the responsibility that once weighed on the lightkeepers, and how this place continues to serve, not just as a historic monument but as a cherished symbol of perseverance and guidance.
It's a place worth visiting not only for its beauty and historical significance but for the quiet sense of peace it brings. Our camera captured those moments—the crisp blue skies, the towering lighthouse standing against the lake, and the sense of timelessness that comes with it.
This lighthouse is a true gem, a place to take a pause, breathe in the fresh lake air, and reflect on how something so steadfast can stand the...
Read moreAbout 10 years ago I had gotten off work and decided to take the drive to wind point to take a picture at night of this beautiful lighthouse. It was just me and my dog and we were as far back in the field as you can be. It was just a few minutes after 10 pm when a wind point police officer pulled up next to my car and had me come up to his cruiser. He pointed out the sign I was parked under that was completely obscured by a tree and not visible from where we were parked or had walked to take the shot. The sign was as in relation to the area closing at ten. Instead of letting us know he kindly wrote us a trespassing ticket and sent us on our way. So I just want to say thank you to that officer for ruining every ounce of beauty I was trying to capture that night. I haven’t been back since and that really says a lot about that cop. Anyway this is the photo I had intended on gifting to the staff in the courthouse but instead I found myself sitting there for a different reason. Great job officer. Wind point is a safer better place...
Read moreThis is a must go and it is Free. There are little historical informational signs along side of the building and light house which would be great for a nice walk and time with the family to get away from the house. There is also a beach but more of a distressed beach but extremely nice to walk but bring your shoes or sandles can be rocky and sea shells on some area's. But is nice not a lot of people there and kinda romantic and relaxing. You can easily have a nice romantic picnic out there. But for a free event to do with your mate or your family is a great time to take pictures and learn some real important history and have a time to get away. To climb the light house is only certain days and its a fee but that you will have to look online about $12 for adults kids are cheaper and little ones are free. Good day people keep the smile on your face 😊 I also included some pictures of a little hut someone put some effort in a good place to take pictures maybe 7 blocks...
