UPDATE: Kaercherās creek was stocked with rainbow trout in March 2018 for opening day on April 1st. Seems like two stockings a year are scheduled for the future; a spring stocking and a winter stocking.
I live within walking distanceāKaercher's creek park and recreation area was 'closed' in 2014, it still remains open, but without regular maintenance. The state owns the land/lake, but it use to be maintained by Berks County. After financial and maintenance disputes between the state and county the actual park area was closed. The boat ramp and parking area remain open; dusk - 10 pm. The boat ramp is for smaller boats only; internal combustion motors are prohibited.
Since 2014, the 3 fishing docks have been removed from the water, the pavilion areas no longer have picnic tables, there is no playground equipment, and the lodge that use to be rented out has been boarded shut, along with the public restrooms being permanently closed. There is also substantial overgrown grass/weeds especially in the spring and summer times.
The county stopped stocking the lake in 2014. It use to be stocked with Tiger Muskellunge each year. There was no stocking between 2014-2016, but in 2017 there was a small stocking of 25 fingerling Muskellunge. Channel Catfish were last stocked in 2012. This is not really a bass lake; in fact the last bass stocking occurred in 2008, most are under or around 12 inch size or smaller. Pickerel, Crappie, and various Bluegill species were also stocked, but none recently.
Overall, the park is still peaceful and a beautiful natural environment even though it is not maintained any longer. Although not personally knowledgable, I believe it would be a good place to go bird spotting as well. Iāve seen a few blue herrings and even a couple bald eagles. There are turtles and even beavers living...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRan down. Exhausting. Poison ivy everywhere. Nowhere to sit down at pavilion. No trash cans. Have to walk to the parking lot for Porta potty. Broken down benches and overgrown 4 square black top. If you're looking to just dip your boat in the water and fish it's probably nice but we met up there with family based on reviews there would be a pavilion and benches or something to picnic. Only way into the area was where the boats go, "soccer field" drive was closed off. We had to walk to the pavilion down a steep hill through mostly grass and during wet seasons would be thru a huge patch of mud at the bottom. It was dried up for us luckily and has stepping stones. Saw one bench near where people would fish from the bank. We found a mens room that was closed down. There were cute statues the kiddos entertained themselves with, but everything else sucked. If someone went in and did some serious clearing, added some cans and put a few picnic tables in it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreKaercher Creek Park is located at Pond Drive and Old Route 22, Tilden Township, Berks County Pennsylvania. The park is near Hamburg close to major highways PA 61 and Interstate 78. It is a small park with the lake as its main attraction. Bring your boat and fishing equipment and try your luck. Kaercher Creek Park is very quiet and peaceful except for the traffic noise from I-78 off in the distance. A small variety of birds can be seen. I did not see any waterfowl. Ample parking and there is a boat launch. The drive is paved as well as the trials. The park is open to the public and it is not private property. Drive slowly when searching for Pond Drive. You might drive past the entrance and will have to turn around. Date of visit: Wednesday...
