This is small park but it has some unique landscape along its creek forming Dells. A portion of the trails leaving the nature center are paved and they stay within the confines of a small wooded area. Further on the trail becomes natural, more hilly and heavily wooded. The creek is the central feature in this part of the park. In the summer this park can be quite busy but the winter is much less active. There are large numbers of humming birds here in season up in front of the nature center so if you are looking to photograph them you are almost guaranteed to see them when it warms up.

Absolutely fantastic place to relax and enjoy all the birds!!! The Nature Center provides food for our feathered friends so there's a lot of birds that call it home. There's a multitude of different birds there..Indigo Bunting, Goldfinches, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Orioles, Nuthatches, Eastern Phoebes, Flickers, Gnat catchers, White Crowned Sparrows, and so much more!!! There's also a really nice walking path and a natural play area for the kids; big and small 😉. They also host a lot of Milkweed so the Monarchs are super happy there. Can't say enough good about this beautiful place. ❤️

I attended this location with my son and his class on a field trip. I pride myself in knowing and taking my children to everyplace that they can enjoy in Rockford. That day I found out I had missed a spot. When we went it had snowed the night before. That added to the beauty of the hike we took. The staff was excellent and taught us all so much about animals and made it understandable for the kids. We had so much fun, I will definitely be going back.

Attended an event hosted by Greg Keilback in which he shared a story he wrote about one of his earliest hiking experiences, and the impact it had on his appreciation for nature conservation. There is a knowledgeable staff on location, about to begin their nature walks and other presentations. I highly recommend making a visit to their web link so you can catch one of their calendar events. Also I want to mention there is a nice park area with picnic furnishings, and on the other side of the trail by the main building and parking area there is a large playground to watch your kids have fun and enjoy...
