Historic Clark Tower — Attraction in Winterset

The park and tower was nice to visit. Tower was ok. Nothing I would tell anyone that they had to see, but if in the area worth a checkout. The park has a covered and a cobblestone bridge. It also has some tree sculptors from down trees that are fun to checkout. Eagle, butterfly and bunny, squirrels, gnomes, and a few others including one still in the works. It has several nice pavilions. The one we used had 4 fireplace. There are public restrooms with running water and flushing toilets that were kept up nicely. There is a hedge maze and a couple playgrounds. One was not open for use yet. There are Camping sites for RV's & campers. The town of Winterset was a nice little town a well. Worth a visit if...

Overall a good experience. You probably need to plan about an hour for this between driving to/from the park entrance and walking around exploring the tower. The road is very scenic and neat, but needs some work, several pot holes and washouts and areas of vegetation overgrowth that rubs against your car. The tower is very cool, but also needs some work, the interior ceiling/floor to the 2nd and 3rd level are showing signs of wear and visibility of rebar thru the concrete. Beautiful landmark to look through after a nice hike. It took a few different visits to Winterset to be able to get up to see Clark Tower. Signage isn’t easily found, and GPS was a little confused guiding us directly to the landmark without hitting “No Trespass” roads. We also frequently hit points of the season where the trail was closed for various weather related reasons.
