It's approximately a 3ish mile kayak from the public boat landing in Winthrop on Lake Cobbosseecontee. If you're a lighthouse hunter or kayak adventurer or water sport of any kind kind of person, I recommend this trip. As a kayaker, I have found the other boaters on the lake friendly, respectful and cautious. It is one of my favorite lighthouses to visit. For those that don't know this lake has a pretty cool history, it is fun to learn if you are going to visit. There are no public bathrooms /no porter potties here. Carry in carry out. And they do frequently have a milfoil inspector checking all water crafts, so a nudge to ensure your boat is clean. Happy water sporting and light house peeping! Remember hydration, sun block, water safety and emergency preparedness for a safe fun time on the water! ❤️

I visit the Lighthouse each year by kayak on my annual trip to the lake. My family camp dates back to 1893 so we have a lot of family stories about the history of the light. Boats traveled north on the lake taking passengers to the dances at Island Park. There are public boat ramps on both ends of the lake, north end is closer to the Light.

The Cobbosee Light House really can only be viewed by water. I suggest checking into a boat rental at Lakeside Marina in Winthrop Me. There is a state boat launch on Turtle Run Road in Winthrop as well as a state boat launch in Monmouth Me. From the Winthrop launch, the lighthouse is approximately 1 mile south on the lake and is visible as soon as you clear the cove from the launch. Definitely a must if you boat on...

It's a very cool lighthouse! Supposedly the only freshwater lighthouse in Maine. Be careful when approaching with a motorboat, as there are many rocks, hence the need for the Lighthouse. If on a jetski or human powered boat, you can get right to the island. Definitely worth checking out if on the lake! Most of the towns surrounding the lake have public...
