Highly recommend, will be back soon! I rented a hermitage at Holy Wisdom Monastery for two days and it was a lovely time away. In a time of great busyness and hustle, Holy Wisdom Monastery provided the escape I was looking for. Here are five reasons I would suggest a personal retreat:
Nature meets you at every turn along the beautiful well-kept trails and paths. The food cooked in their commercial grade kitchen was above and beyond expectations: steak burgers, homemade ranch dressing, turkey and mashed potatoes, salad, fruit, brownies, muffins, and delicious morning coffee. Clear communication process for reservation, check in, and during my stay. The monastery is right here in town. A hidden gem right in the midst of Madison. Easily accessible from the surrounding areas. The hermitage was clean, quiet, and set apart. By reserving this time and space, I poured into my passion (writing), I honored my humanity (with rest), and I connected with nature and God (hard not to with all the natural beauty meeting you at every turn).
Reserve your retreat. You will not...
Read moreI recently visited Holy Wisdom Monastery for the first time while attending a weekend retreat organized by UW-Health. I immediately fell in love with Holy Wisdom and had a wonderful stay in one of the single rooms in their guest house. The room was simple but quite comfortable, with lots of light, and with its own private bathroom. The shared kitchen was clean and well-stocked with a variety of breakfast items. The meals at the monastery were outstanding - fresh, delicious food, served in a beautiful dining room with amazing views. I also had a chance to explore some of the many hiking trails through the woods and prairie - what a peaceful and inspiring place! I can't believe I didn't know about Holy Wisdom prior to that weekend - what a treasure! I'm already planning to come back soon for a personal retreat. Many thanks to the Sisters and the outstanding staff for their warm hospitality and for sharing this oasis of peace and...
Read moreOn my visit, I stayed in one of the two hermitage apartments in the woods. It has a bedroom, den, bathroom, and kitchen. The bed has a memory foam mattress (far nicer than most retreat centers) and plenty of drawers for my clothes. The bathroom had fluffy towels, some toiletries, a first aid kit, and a hair dryer (again, much more than most retreat centers). The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, oven, stove, and microwave. There were plenty of pots, pans, utensils, and plates, bowls, and silverware. The grounds are beautiful, even in the dead of winter - with lots of walking trails. Retreatants are also able to join the community in prayer 3 times a day, with two opportunities for centering prayer also available. Although I was on silent retreat, I was welcomed warmly, even as they honored my need to remain silent. I'm already shuffling my schedule so I can return soon to let my soul quiet in this...
