Totally embarrassed that I invited my family to join me here today. I live nearby and previously had a fairly good experience, visiting alone with my well behaved, calm and leashed dog for a tasting. I own a busy and highly reviewed Airbnb nearby with a robust guidebook that I have personally taken a lot of time to curate - so I wanted to see if this was a place I should add. They seem to be dog friendly (on leash of course), but as I was leaving, the owner urged me to come back next time “without the dog”. I brushed it off, assuming she meant well, just wishing I could have joined the crowd inside.

But today, I brought my sister, BIL and 18 month old niece and the cranky old lady was SO rude and over-bearing, treating my family as if they’re bad parents for allowing the child to walk independently around. It’s not as if we were there to get wasted and be irresponsible. But she made all of us feel that way. So inhospitable. My sister ordered me a single glass of rose, and the old woman brought it out… standing 5’ from the tasting room door, just looking at me. Didn’t even say anything… and I was heading out to the field with both my niece and dog. So I asked my niece to wait and the woman immediately snapped at me — “DON’T LEAVE HER!” Like, oh my god!! I am walking literally 20’ to you! Calm down!! I know my niece, she is 100% fine. “She could run off in a second!!”. Completely irrational. If you aren’t kid-friendly, explicitly state so!! It’s not as if my niece was loud, whining or causing a scene. In fact, she picked up and fixed their cheese sign three times as it blew over in the wind! We were prepared to have a glass of wine and move to the hillside but she was just so nasty, we left.

Some old school, over-bearing attitudes. If I wanted to hang out with my cranky mom, I’d go to her house.
