This was our first family ski trip in many years. We used to go downhill skiing but the cost has gotten ridiculous (nearby Mt. Snow would have cost us 1k for two days of skiing with rentals, lesson, and lift tickets). Not only was the price much more reasonable at Prospect but we had the added bonus of not having to avoid out of control beginner snow boarders on every run. A huge perk for sure!
The staff were courteous and helpful. They do not have lockers but the owner offered to keep my wife's purse safe behind the counter while we went skiing. The resort has a small town vibe and even the folks skiing there were friendly. Lots of smiles, waves, and even a few people stopped to cheer on our five year old son as he tucked into a racing stance for a run down the hill. Sunday there was a race going on and the parking lot was probably half full. However, the runs never felt crowded probably due to the amount of terrain available, which really helped spread everyone out.
The pesto in the lodge is delicious and they even had veggie and black bean burgers, which was great because I am vegan. The serving sizes were a little small though, or maybe I was just famished from skiing for several hours... Despite the portions the food was good, no complaints there.
After lunch save your scraps for the wild pheasant (ask the staff where you can find him/her) that likes to come out of the forest and prance around in exchange for food.
We paid for a private couples lesson both days and our instructor Jenn was top notch. I used to be an assistant ski instructor (adaptive programs) and her ability to communicate clearly and effectively while being very encouraging soon had my wife skiing comfortably on the green runs and helped me dial in my skate technique (on classic skis no less too)!
We had a blast at Prospect and will certainly be coming back...
Read moreA true gem. This is our second time visiting but our first time actually skiing. We came for the cookies and coffee and stayed for the amazing fun on a beautiful Winter day. We opted for a group lesson to learn the fundamentals of all things skinny skis. Joy was an excellent instructor. Yes, you could go and toss some skis on and head off, but take the lesson. Learn the basics build your confidence and get some hints and tips that will make your overall experience better. We are skiers and we found the lesson to be a fantastic addition to our day. We had so much fun practicing our new skills will crisscrossing the mountain rain side while snow gently fell around us. We stayed for lunch and enjoyed amazing soup, grilled cheese and of course more cookies. The people here are genuine. It feels like a community that welcomes everyone. Can’t...
Read moreProspect is REALLY charming and rustic, and although I'm primarily an Alpine Skier, I enjoy Nordic and Telemark too. Prospect was one of two Nordic areas near my parents house in South Newfane; the other one being Sitzmark in Wilmington.
Prospect was WAY better than Sitzmark however, because Sitzmark was a Golf ⛳ course the other three seasons of the year, so it's MUCH flatter and much more a "wide open" area than Prospect is. Prospect is a real Alpine 🗻 environment, which I enjoy MUCH MORE.
Prospect was also only 15 minutes away from the campus of Bennington College (one of my top college choices) so had I gone to college there, I'm sure I would have been at Prospect...
