I really like this park. The staff are very helpful. We have a tent. If you come and bring a tent bring bag tie-downs you can put rocks in or similar as the ground is very stony and made for RVs.
I have mobile issues as in sometimes my legs cooperate and sometimes not so much. I have found using a camp potty and dumping it in the composting toilet by the day use beach is better than trying to get to the regular camp bathroom. Speaking of which, I have not dared use the pay showers yet as I have not figured how to get there and back. There is a handicap site near the bathrooms but I did not know so I am here.
I asked about the cabins which I think he said are $74 or $85/ night (and I think there is a two nite or more.) They have porch, fan, table and bunk beds. They have mostly lake views and need about 11 month in advance reservations. These have about $18 you do not get back if you drop reservations 48 hours before your day.
They also have lean-toos. I stayed in one many years ago. They were nice but one side is open to bugs and bears etc.
The lake is beautiful and has reasonable priced boats of various types and life preservers and boards are included.
You can fish, swim, splash and do artwork at the beach. There is also a campers beach. I have not been due to uneven ground but my 11 year old granddaughter has and liked tossing skipping stones.
She has also run and scootered around the paved roads. I have seen many people of all ages strolling around and pushing small children in various strollers.
The sites have picnic tables and wood fire pits with grills. The camp round sells wood and ice. Oh and there is a fair amount of space between sites and there seem to be some sites more alone too.
Woodford State Park is in the Green Mountain National Forest. It has many trails along with the many trails in the Park itself. It is bout 15-20 to Bennington VT and Wilmington VT. so if you wish to see Southern Vermont it is an excellent base camp. Have fun we did!
Oh on rainy days go towards Wilmington and make a left towards Mt Snow on the right about 2-3 miles we found a pizza place which has candle pin bowling! Miniature Golf and other rainy day activities.
PS Likely this campground would be very challenging for someone wheelchair or visually challenged…maybe doable with the right support but very...
Read moreThe park itself is nice, walking trails, swimming, etc. The staff on the other hand, not nice. From the moment we pulled in and checked in they were not welcoming. Some friends of ours pulled in and stopped at the window to check in stating they had never been here before and weren’t sure if they had to check in and the response from Hannah was “yeah we’d appreciate it” very sarcastically. When we pulled in, staff stared at us and did not say a word until my fiancé got to the window. Quiet time is 10pm, which at the many other campgrounds we have been to means, no music and no excessive noise. 4 of us were sitting around the campground having normal conversations with volume more than a whisper and less than normal conversation volume and a park ranger doing her rounds slammed her door and stomped onto our site to yell at us. She did not stop at any other site that had people opening and closing doors, walking around, talking loud enough for us to hear. She then proceeded to do another loop 10 minutes later and slowed near our site. At this point quiet hour seemed to mean it was “bedtime” and that we were being singled out. She was not kind to us when she stopped, she was rude and condescending. We spent a long weekend at Button Bay State Park this year and had a wonderful experience with wonderful staff, so next time we will take the longer drive to go there. On top of the rude staff, apparently one beach is for swimming and no dogs, while the other beach is for dogs to swim only. The reason given was that the dog beach had e-coli so humans shouldn’t swim in it. It’s a bit concerning that a different beach on the same body of water is considered fine… and it’s concerning that my dog is supposed to swim where...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in the Gentian cabin for 4 nights and can't wait to come back here again. Beautiful park, the cabin was amazing and even the lean-to's were really nice. Cabins have combination lock, high ceiling with light and ceiling fan, one electrical outlet, bunk bed and double-bed futon.
Porch is wonderful and we made plenty of use of the firepit and picnic table. The lake view was great to wake up to in the morning and the trail around the lake was very pleasant hiking. I can't say enough about how nice the cabin was and how kind the staff is. These cabins are well worth the money. Bathroom facilities are well placed in the park and were clean.
Be aware that you will need quarters to take showers. Some people are put off by this...we were at first, but then we grew up and got over it. Considering the very reasonable camp prices here, I'll gladly pay 75 cents for a 7.5 minute shower. Small price to pay to help support such a well-kept park.
There was also another review on here that gave negative reference to Woodford Mountain General Store. Don't believe it. It's a family run business and the people are nice and down to earth. They ran out of a local root beer while we were there and the store owner (I believe his name is Mark) gave me his card and said to call him when we are in the area again and he can order some to have in stock. You just don't find people like that any more.
The park is also close to Bennington, VT and Wilmington, VT and both have some nice locally owned restaurants, specialty stores...and lots of hiking trails!! Yesssss!
I could go on and on. This place is well worth your money and time, whether single,...
