I believe this was the 8th year that we had played this great course. Do to the extreme amount of rain course was very wet and sand traps full of water. Nothing can be done about that. All 4 of us missed the do not drive on fairway sign right by the cashier sign. We must be blind our fault. We were informed of this shortly after starting but wondered why other golfers were seen driving on fairways. On Sunday, we again missed the sign but as we were on tee box seen golfers in front of us on fairways. We reached hole number 4 and a golfer in our 4 some hit his drive on north side of fairway and he started crossing fairway on 90 degree angle and person on fairway mower on 4 tee box hollered at him and said something not very professional. This person also continued to mow on tee box while we were teeing off. This was mentioned to the Marshal that we seen on 5 tee box. He told us then fairways only. Young lady in beer cart we met on 5 green said she had seen other golfers driving in fairways.
Understand course under new management and we missed Becky and her staff. Young people in club house were outstanding and very friendly.
Days we were there was cooler than normal and wet and did not want to sit outside on deck to eat lunch. Felt a little out of place by sitting at tables with white table cloths set up for lunch. In past years, we have ate lunch at club house but did not this year. Must admit food we seen looked delicious. Maybe have plain old tables for golfers.
Had a red draw and it was $6.50 and thought that was a little to much.
Over all we had another good time playing golf and will be back. We will adjust our plans before getting there and not after we our there. Our fault for not seeing the very obvious sign posted saying do not drive...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about Becky and the staff at Shining Mountain Golf Club. Choosing this location for our wedding was very easy for us since we are avid golfers and love the scenery. Becky was very patient and answered all our questions over the year-and-a-half that we took to plan. In the last week leading up to the wedding, she was in touch with us several times and gave us full access to the room to decorate. The day of our wedding, she was exceptionally attentive. She went way beyond our expectations by carting us around the course to take pictures, scrubbing grass and grease out of my dress, and staying in close communication with our DJ and photographer to keep everything on track. Even though Becky is the person we communicated with most, the entire staff at the golf course deserve recognition as well. Kurt, who was tending bar the night of the wedding as well as the day before, deserves extra recognition because of his great attitude. Unlike other venue options, we were NOT put on a set timeline due to another wedding needing the room. The food we chose was exceptional and several guests asked who catered, because they couldn't believe a golf course could provide such wonderful food. We got personalized service, an exceptional view of Colorado, AWESOME food, and great staff. There is no doubt in my mind that we made the absolute BEST choice in vendors. I will recommend Shining Mountain to any and all people who are looking for a venue for...
Read moreWhen you're traveling on vacation and choose a golf course by information and pictures on the Internet only you run the risk of getting lucky or being disappointed. Today I was somewhere in between. Shining mountain Golf Course is a decent course that I was disappointed in some aspects and surprise that. Definitely cannot go wrong with the staff. Everybody that I ran into today or interacted with was super nice and really helpful. Pro shop is well stocked. The pluses to the golf course or the scenery and the well-kept fairways and greens. They're still trying to recover from ice damage on a couple of the greens but it wasn't very bad throughout. The minuses for me were no balls at the driving range to warm up and no paved cart paths. I was constantly dodging potholes on the cart path that they did have. This is a tight course in certain areas and you absolutely positively have to keep your ball straight. If not you're going to be up on the side of the mountain. It also has very tall rough and if you get off the fairway you can easily walk past your ball 3,4,5 times before you find it. I definitely enjoyed myself because it can be typically frustrating when you're playing at course by yourself that you know nothing about. I'm glad I chose it and I would recommend playing the course if you're in the area. It was easily 10 to 14° cooler up at the course and it was done at my hotel thank you shining mountain Golf Course for your...
