Today we found ourselves having to change up from our traditional routine and place that we have gone apple picking for the last 10 years. Trying to schedule a reservation and work within the group sizes made it impossible for us to go there this year. That said it was still important to me that safety was clearly valued at whatever farm we went to pick apples. After talking with some friends Woodstock orchards moved to the top of the list and I am ever so happy that I gave it a try.
Pricing was pretty much what we paid at previous sites but there was no limitation to the size of our group which is handy when you have four children. The store had lots of additional options for us to pick up like apple cider donuts, candied apples, and fresh apple cider. All of which I felt was reasonably priced. Masks were worn inside all of the buildings and along common paths but once we were in the Apple tree rows and were not around any other groups we were able to take our masks off and taste some apples while we picked! While it seemed pretty busy when we arrived at the parking area other than the common paths to get to the picking areas we really didn't see anybody.
The only negative if I had to give one is that the parking situation is less than optimal and with a larger crowd there when we were leaving it was a bit of a wait to be able to get the extra items I wanted to buy. You can't go apple picking without buying a bag of fresh apple cider donuts. I'm pretty sure that's an arrestable crime at least it is...
Read moreI have always loved it here and have been going since I was a kid, this is not regarding product at all.
For context; I took my children tonight to pick out their pumpkins, as I do every year. My daughter (who is 4) touches the top of one and started screaming in pain. My partner and I then spent the following half hour trying to get about little fiberglass type shards of out of her hand while she sobbed.
The reason I am upset is because my partner picked up the pumpkin and brought it inside to give it to the lady so no other kids would get hurt. When I quickly explained how there was glass on the pumpkin and how my daughter had a bunch of glass in her hand, her only response was a very dry and skeptical "well, I don't see why there would be glass on the pumpkins". When he gave her the pumpkin and I explained that that was the one she said "okay" again, dryly. No apology, no concern, she also did not go to make sure the other pumpkins were clean, nor call someone else to, she just continued doing stuff inside, even though there were still kids out there that could also have gotten hurt. We put what we were going to buy back at that point and on my way out I suggested that she maybe make sure the other pumpkins are safe. She just said "okay" again and we left. I'm not sure if she checked after we left but use caution and check before your...
Read moreEvery day when I drop my son off at school I've got to stop in and get there cinnamon sugar apple cider donuts and I can't forget there apple crisp (witch is to die for) they are some of the friendliest people I've encountered on my journey. And of course when I pick my son up from school we'll stop in and he gets the things he likes. This place is a gem and if you ever are out cruising the back roads of Woodstock Connecticut this is a must place you need to stop and look at all of the homemade products they offer there's a separate building for that. I don't for see in the future that I'd stop ever going there's. You will believe happy you stopped at...
