LA|Snow-Capped Peaks 🏔️ Glacial Lakes 🧊 Mt. High's Latest Snow Season Guide

Beauty and serenity can be found here, and it is hardly more than an hour or so away from any given area in the LA metro area. On top of that, it has stocked with trout multiple times as early summer fishing is here (May/June weekly releases per the publically accessible lake stocking data released by the CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife). This is as easily accessible and as peaceful a place there is that is close by that can enable bass fishermen like myself to get a little feel for mountain trout fishing, so it is much appreciated. As a nature lover, I hope that the recent 3 consecutive years of above average snowpack have repleted the water levels to where they are sustainable enough to revitalize this small lake back to its former state...and then to keep efforts going to make this a pristine trout fishing hole. I really hope that catch and release is practiced and that trash is minimized. I was here recently and can confirm that there are healthy looking trout in the water, which is clean and has lush vegetation...all the ingredients look to be in place to support a healthy ecosystem for trout.

I came here last Friday for a picnic with my kids, I was shocked to find out there’s a new $10 fee. I’ve been coming here for years and never had to pay. This ruined the experience for us and we ended up leaving. This used to be a nice spot to fish and bring the kids to get out of the house and relax in an outdoor environment for free. It sucks that places like these are going away. The lake itself isn’t bad. It’s small but the atmosphere is nice. It’s not good for swimming or any other water sports but it’s decent for fishing. Definitely not worth $10

It's pretty, yes. I'm not happy with the management of Mountain High taking over the concession contract with the USFS. Mountain High is notorious for charging for parking lots and never investing in upgrades (look at any of their ski resorts that are run down). A couple of weeks ago there was no entry fee, and now there is a $10 fee. Otherwise just park on the road and you can use the site for free (since it's federal public land). I appreciated there was an umbrella in the picnic table, so that was good. Bathrooms were poor/gross. If they are charging $$, where is the attention to the site.

The recreational use is a bit of a mess. There are people fishing over top of children...
