There are several trails scattered along the road that runs the length of the park, some are horse friendly and all are dog friendly. As I progressed through the park I did notice that the park leans more towards recreational hunters in the area, there are many posting that notify everyone there are hunters in the woods. This is not a deterrent, just a friendly advising, I honestly wasn't expecting such a hunter niche in the park but the full name of the park could lead you to know that, (it just didn't click for me). BUT over all there are a few trails are seem more geared for hikes, the Nature trail about half way in the park and the trail at the very end of the road, whose name escapes me atm. The land is flat so it doesn't make for an exhausting visit. Just be weary of puddles that may form if its rained recently- since the...
Read moreTICKS, TICKS, TICKS Visited August 4, 2024. Party of 7 people, after walking we all found numerous ticks, mostly very tiny ones, initially crawling up our legs in quantities anywhere from about 10-50, and then later found on other body parts. Those would be Deer Ticks, know for the risk of carrying Lyme Disease and infecting victims. This is not your normal situation of finding one or two ticks. It's way worse than anywhere I've ever been. Just hope this helps protect someone whose health can't afford the risks. For those determined to hike, long sleeve pants and shirts, and serious tick repellant advised. A dog will bring these ticks onboard probably by the hundreds or more in certain seasons, and could also spread them to human owners. Best of luck. The park and the trails along the Osage Trees down to the water, etc are...
Read moreThe Ferry Point Trail was super cool with how the trees arched over the straight path to a small beach. West Corner Trail was mostly around farmland with one really good water view but had a bit of a muddy section. Schoolhouse woods mature trail is very close to the water level for very muddy sections and crosses over several small streams with make shift bridges using branches. The Holly Tree Trail part of the loop we walked on was a much more artificial trail and drier but the smaller beach it goes to was nice.
The only trash we saw was a single cigarette butt along the road.
Definitely going again to try the...
