Jackson Lake Dam is a concrete and earth-filled dam at the outlet of Jackson Lake, and inside Grand Teton National Park. Jackson Lake is a natural lake, but its depth was increased by the dam to provide water storage, for farm lands in Idaho. The dam was designed by Frank A. Banks, who also supervised the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. They appear quite similar. Teton Park Highway runs across the top of the dam, and just beyond it, by the sign, is a free parking area. Park there and walk across the dam top for photos of Jackson Lake, and downstream from the dam. There are safe walking areas on both sides of the dam top off the highway. On the far side, there is access to a beach. Across the highway from the parking area, is a restroom and a hiking path going along the lake shore. Great views of the Tetons and Mt. Moran from this area.

MUST SEE! We stayed in Colter Bay. Only drove to the dam because of a fishing app on my son's phone. I can't imagine how many people skip this on their way south. Don't do it!! Go and park and walk out on the dam and grab one of the greatest pictures you will ever take! If you have time stay and fish! NOTE: If you are coming south from Yellowstone and map to Jackson Lake Dam it will say tolls are involved. They are not. That is only true coming north into the park PRO TIP: if you don't go to the top of signal Mountain just 10 minutes past the dam, what are you doing with your life! If you are in it for the views and the photos you have to do this. Just check you Google map for signal Mountain summit. Every bit worth the drive up the hill.

Jackson Lake Dam is a concrete and earth-fill dam in the western United States, at the outlet of Jackson Lake in northwestern Wyoming. The lake and dam are situated within Grand Teton National Park in Teton County. The Snake River emerges from the dam and flows about eight hundred miles through Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington to its mouth on the Columbia River in eastern Washington. The chief purpose of the dam is to provide water storage for irrigation in the Snake River basin in the state of Idaho as part of the Minidoka Project. Jackson Lake is a natural lake, but its depth was increased by the dam to provide water storage. Very cool. Follow along on my adventures and Get Your Hike On.

A Breathtaking Dam Experience! "We stumbled upon this incredible dam, and it exceeded our expectations! My kids were thrilled to see the dam up close for the first time. Witnessing the gushing water and impressive concrete structure left them ecstatic. The picturesque surroundings and mesmerizing views made for perfect photo opportunities. The area is ideal for kids to explore and walk around. This spot is a must-visit, whether as a pit stop or planned destination, especially when traveling from Yellowstone. Kudos to the maintenance team for keeping the area pristine.

As with the rest of the Tetons, this rest stop offers beautiful views. It also shows us some old equipment that was used at the dam and explains some history. There's also a nice path above the lake that has amazing views. It's kind of sad to see so much shoreline, but according to the displays that you can read (see photos), they have control of how much water is in the lake, so not sure why they're letting so much out?
