We were on our way to South Dakota from Yellowstone and took an unplanned route that led us to a piece of heaven!! First, we went through some tall red rock canyons and found a river on the side of the road. There was a bridge and a trail so we stopped to see it all. It looks like you could hike on the trail for quite a ways. Then further up the road, we came upon a turn out to see a waterfall. If you ever travel this way, stop to see it!! We were there in June and the water was rushing and was just beautiful!! The rest of the drive took us up above 8,000 feet to beautiful meadows mixed in with the forest. Just the most beautiful countryside that I have ever seen! There are a few campgrounds up there too near Burgess Junction. When you begin to descend down the mountain, there are pull outs to take in the amazing view leading into Sheridan. I’m so glad we took this route!!! We are already planning our return to the area. If you have the time,...

Beautiful site with lovely waterfall cascading down into a canyon. Three vantage points to view but know that you will have to navigate steps up and down to see all three. There are signs to explain geology but unfortunately, the interpretive center was not open. (We were there on a Friday midday.) Highly recommend the stop if you are passing through the Big Horns. Note: there are other vantage points of the canyon outside of this interpretive area. Please use caution when stepping out towards the canyon as I can see it would be easy to fall...

Though its scenic drive but has many curves and sharp turns so avoid speeding and enjoy the scenic drive. Shell falls has few overlook spots, you can spend some time listening the fall sound and admiring the nature beauty. Visitor center was closed. Restrooms are currently closed but temporary toilets are available. Visited during 13-14 June. Mobile...
