We were on our way to South Dakota from Yellowstone and took an unplanned route that led us to a piece of heaven!! First, we went through some tall red rock canyons and found a river on the side of the road. There was a bridge and a trail so we stopped to see it all. It looks like you could hike on the trail for quite a ways. Then further up the road, we came upon a turn out to see a waterfall. If you ever travel this way, stop to see it!! Just the most beautiful countryside that I have ever seen! There are a few campgrounds up there too near Burgess Junction. When you begin to descend down the mountain, there are pull outs to take in the amazing view leading into Sheridan. I’m so glad we took this route!!! We are already planning our return to the area. If you have the time,...

Note: there are other vantage points of the canyon outside of this interpretive area. Please use caution when stepping out towards the canyon as I can see it would be easy to fall...
