Like most have already said, it is a hidden spot off the Hwy, but Google Maps will take you to the correct spot. If people pulled in straight to park, you could probably fit about 6 cars, but when I was there, two cars were parked sideways so no one else could park or they would block them. I parked on the side of the road where there is also room for probably 5 cars before and after the dirt parking. There is a rock at the start of the trail that says "Tilton River State Park," so you will know you are at the right spot. The trail is really pretty and just a short 1/4 mile to the river, known as the "The Studhalter Fishing Hole." There are some handmade firepits, a rocky beach, and a lazy river. Watch out for sunbathing snakes on the trail, now that the weather is getting nice again. I almost stepped on a gardener snake, but it slithered into the bushes. Flowers are starting to bloom, and the little rocky beach has a great spot to take a dip if you are a cold plunger. Always be careful of cold plunging in rivers as the current can change at any time. I kept my feet on the ground the entire time, and the current was fine when I got in, but I could feel and see it changing the longer I stayed in. Another good spot to take a dip is in Morton at Gust Backstrom Park just down the street.
Visit this state park soon as the land...
Read moreAs others have said, it’s not marked from the road, and there’s very little parking (just a turnout really), but the area is beautiful. The trail in is a nice forest canopy with lots of ferns and moss covered trees. Once at the river, it’s a rocky shore with some sand, but little shade and space. The river is very clean. I was there a few minutes when I heard crashing through the woods on the other side, and a small black bear ran into the river. It then doubled back and was coming back towards the river as I was trying to leave with my dog. It got near us and finally saw us, I yelled out, and it bolted back into the woods, very scared. My dog and I half ran back to the car calling out every minute or so in case we crossed paths unexpectedly, but luckily we didn’t. Anyway, it’s a nice spot, but know that you...
Read moreOff the grid/slightly hard to notice where the trail head starts. There is a tiny spot off the highway to park, could probably fit three cars. No restrooms. The trail is a bit rough/not maintained, so wear tennis shoes and long pants to avoid scratches from branches+bushes. However the view of the river is stunning and worth the short trip out to see it! If you plan on staying for more than a quick viewing of it-you could bring folding or camping chairs. There was a small fire pit as well. No trash cans so pack anything...
