The recreation area follows a long stretch of the East Walker River. This is the campground and visitor center. 16 sites for trailers with electricity and water, no sewer. Many dry camping sites along river. This is a new park, less than 5 years old, so it is kind of open and barren. They have planted hundreds of trees and shrubs that will fill it in eventually. OHV vehicles are allowed, there are a lot of trails and it is becoming popular. If you don't like motor noise, don't come on weekends or holidays, uncrowded and quiet on weekdays. Great hub for exploring the surrounding mountains, which on this visit were snow capped and overflowing the river with melt water. There are 4 very nice cabins for rent 1/4 mile upriver, see website. Had a great stay, but will only return midweek in future due to our...

Recently went here second week of July. The ticks were out of control and everywhere! I pulled a couple dozen off my dog alone. The children and adults also had some. We took the tick to the department of wildlife and they confirmed it was the American dog tick. One of the children became sick with early symptoms of Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. Ok now, was put in antibiotics and labs pending confirmation. I realize the occurrence of RMSF is rare, but it does happen and needs to be treated early. The camp sites are very nice, the bathrooms are clean, the river was very full and nice to float in (minus the tree that blocks the float path). I have four stars because there are no posted warnings about the high level of ticks in the area and it...

This place is amazing. It's out if the way and little known to outsiders but we stayed for 2 weeks and had an amazing little vacation! Lisa in the visitors center is great! They REALLY need better camp hosts. We did not engage with him at all and did not see him greet even a single guest the entire 2 weeks we were there. Other than that this place is a great find! The river is beautiful, the surrounding nature is beautiful and once they complete the work currently underway it will be even better. Wish we could have stayed the entire summer! Quiet during the week and not so loud even on weekends. The campsites are spaced apart so you're not right on top of other campers. The off road trails were good. We had a blast on...

A good little cruise out there, but once you walk for a bit, so much beauty and history arises. The area is still technically under development, which to me is exciting because that means there will always be new things to see. We got to talk to mark, who might I add is very knowledgeable, and super cool to talk to. He said that they will adding new trails and after a couple years, added vegetation should start to take hold. Making this park even more like an oasis. The road out there is a two and a half mile maintained (but not perfect) dirt road, so a newer BMW 325i is not recommended to take out there. Much more to be said but, it's better you go find out yourself!!!
