Going to see punxsutawney Phil was an interesting experience to say the least. The "Punxy Boys" performed Beasty Boys parodies to entertain the crowd. I can honestly say that they had the crowd engaged and entertained. The single digit temperature was a bit tough to handle though. I thought that I had dressed warmly enough. My toes, however, disagreed with me. I would strongly suggest dressing warmer than you think you need to, especially your feet. The gift tent did sell hand warmer packs though. The gift tent was small but warm with a super friendly group running the sales. There was a nice assortment of different things to buy. I decided on a groundhog beanie because I think my kids will like it. For people who are concerned about keeping Phil in that stup in bellow freezing temperatures, he isn't allowed into the stump until just before he does his big reveal. They allow people to take pictures up close after the predition is made. One other thing to keep in mind is they bus you in from the local Walmart, or two other places if you parked somewhere else. Its $5 each for a bus ticket. There is a free age, but i didn't catch what that was. When the prediction is over, the entire crowd gets in line to get back on the busses. It gets packed, so if you are so inclined, many people walk the road back. Its not a short walk, but if you are in the back of the pack, it will be faster. All in all, if your in the area for groundhog's day, I would recommend going...
Read moreFor many Years I always wondered what it would be like to see "PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL" come out of his HOLE to see what his "WEATHER PREDICTION" would be. I've heard that a lot of VISITORS pack into the SMALL hamlet & there are so many lights that SOMETIMES it's TOO hard for "PHIL" not to see his SHADOW. My Family & I came up to PUNXSUTAWNEY" to pick up some items & having NEVER BEEN to this DELIGHTFUL Area, We decided to go TOURING. I wanted to VISIT "GOBBLER'S KNOB" to see what ALL of the EXCITEMENT was about & to try to get a GLIMPSE of the Famous "PUNXY PHIL". It was EITHER pictures, cardboard cutouts or full size hard plastic recreations of the Town's "MOST FAMOUS FURRY INHABITANT". Since it WASN'T Feb. 2nd, "THE OFFICIAL GROUNDHOG'S WEATHER DATE", It wasn't crowded at "GOBBLER'S KNOB". But, There were some other VISITORS besides us taking pictures of "PHIL'S" Domain. What's SAD is that the BILL MURRAY Movie "GROUNDHOG DAY" WASN'T filmed in "PUNXSUTAWNEY", But instead in "ILLINOIS", Where BILL lived at times. We ENJOYED Our drive up from "PITTSBURGH" & We ENJOYED Our drive thru this "REALLY PICTURESQUE" Town. I do SUGGEST tho that "GOBBLER'S KNOB" be a set DESTINATION for anyone who reads this REVIEW bc it's a PRETTY Area to DRIVE up to & get out of the car & WALK around WHERE "PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL" boldly ANNOUNCES his WEATHER FORECAST for the...
Read moreBest place ever! Great souvenir store and the morning of is a blast! Make the trek for GH day. They don't price gouge at all!
I see some reviews that are low, but, the fault is due to lack of research, not this place. (Obviously, there isn't anything going on if it's not 2/2 and Phil lives at the Library, not here).
The bus trip was organized (buy tickets early for ease), the grounds are great (hay covered), hot chocolate and donuts available. Bring snacks and water if you want more things.
2/2, the entertainment is fun, quirky. The day is not meant to be serious. Great sound, lighting and ability to see from any spot. No drinking at GHD, so, everyone is so nice and kind.
Plan ahead. Dress for the weather, buy VIP access and early bus passes (get a membership to do so), bring snacks and drinks, do the walk back to Walmart if possible. Or, buy a parking pass early to drive yourself.
The team works super hard. I can't imagine hosting an event that starts at 3am. They don't get much sleep and everyone is...
