Worst vacation/ camping trip i have ever had. Staff was not helpful. Reserved a spot online. We knew it would be late when we arrived but called and verified that our spot was reserved and we could come in at anytime. But when we got there we found someone else was set up and camped in our spot (they had another spot that was next to ours but took over the whole section so we had no where to go or set up until the following day when the office opened (whichbis not until 930am). Sleeping in an suv in a parking lot with two adults, two teen boys, and two dogs was less than pleasurable. We should have left right then and taken it as a sign because the weekend just kept getting worse. So next morning we talk to office find out few sights available this holiday and ask if we would at least get a refund on out 1st night, but staff just said I dont know how to do that and gave us no credit for our 1st night but also informed us that yes they gave other campers permission to spread out and taken our spot over. So then we finally have a spot, we get all moved and set up. We decided to go fish when we are informed lake had just refilled and they had not restocked it and there were no fish in it due to dam construction that had been going on for 2 yrs prior. We tried to make the best of it and decided to rent kayaks like the website says they do! But they didnt... we were informed that they had not prepared for holiday camp weekend and that none of the boats were accessible... Wow- so just spent $120 on two camp spots (because they were so small we decided to rent two to be comfortable. We were never reimbursed for 1st night of camping when office staff had given our already paid for spot away. And they had nothing available that they advertised (fish in lake for fishing, boat rentals) unbelievable and we will...
Read moreWe came here for a peaceful and quiet fourth of July vacation. There are four of us and two pets. Needless to say, we will NOT be back here. The creek water made our skin itch, the park rangers DO NOT DO Their JOBS as "so called wildlife experts."
Two of our tents were attacked by raccoons and my daughter and I were sleeping. This was at one in the morning! We woke up to a raccoon actively trying to get into our tent! We have pictures of the damage. The next morning, my cousin requested our camp site moved, thinking this would solve the problem.
Nope! Not only that, but me and him stayed up all night watching our tent to make sure the critters wouldn't come back. Alas, that was not the case, as this time, it tried to attack us! We called 911 for assistance, the sheriff came out, gave special permission to two police officers to shoot the raccoon on sight. Well, they did, and we thought, problem solved. Nope!
Again, the night after all this, the critters came back and tried to attack our tent while we were sleeping! My cousin stayed up all night long while watching our tents, and almost got attacked again! All my life, I have loved nature, but now, it's to the point I no longer want to camp! I have been a backpacker for 20 years, used to rugged places and wildlife. Never had this much trouble ever in my life!
Don't bring kids, pets or disabled people here, they may be attacked for sleeping in the campsite! There were other complaints from other campers, but these park rangers did absolutely nothing to help us! All they did was tell us we are in nature, this is their home!
That may be, but why make a dangerous state park if not for EVERYONE to enjoy the outdoors? Would not come back if I was paid to! We spent 315 dollars for 14 days, and this was ALL we...
Read moreI was so looking forward to camping and riding here on my way north from Florida. The Google map pin took us to the wrong campground. Nobody around to ask for directions. Nobody in the office. Couldn’t get ahold of anyone at the reservation center. Ended up dinging the tailgate on the truck trying to get out of the lower campground because Google kept saying the horse campground was 275 feet away. It was! Straight up a hill with no road. Went down to Blue Rock State Forest Bridle Trail area because some nice passerby said they had seen horse signs there. Well guess what? All the signs to the actual horse camp on Corn rd are only on one side of the road. So after 45 minutes of trying to find our way some kind stranger finally knew where we were supposed to go. Get to the camp only to find, NO Water! April 14th. They haven’t turned it on yet I guess. So I suppose the reservation should have said no water for the horses. We carry water in the trailer for drinking but not enough for the horses. We cannot stay the 2 nights we planned so there will be no riding. What a disappointing disaster. Traveling hundreds of miles with horses. Not for the faint hearted that is for sure. We travel with the horses about 3000 miles annually. We very rarely have a FUBAR...
