This one of the best activities I have done on holiday. The scenery is amazing! It involves an hour and a half drive in a dual-cab ute(kids loved being in the back). Then a walk from one village to the next(30min). This was challenging due to the uneven, boggy and slippery track(In fact the whole trip is slippery as hell). Stop at the second village and drop any dry gear. Then treck through the jungle and down to the cave(80min). This ranges from flat easy stroll, to seriously steep with makeshift ladders. The cave has lots of clambering over boulders and fording water(30min). The exit of the cave is particularly pretty, you will want to take photos. Then there is more bouldering through the canyon(40min) Foothold, hand grips and ropes have been strategically placed. Also very picturesque. Then a swim through the second part of the canyon(40min). Floating on your back gazing up is recommended. Once through the canyon, its a very steep climb for a 100m or so(felt like 500), and a walk, back to the second village to collect your gear and have a break. Now, I point out that this would easily class as a level 5 hike, BUT the help of the guides makes it far easier than it would be solo. There was 17 in our group being looked after by about 8 guides(i was too busy keeping my footing to count with certainty). The fitness level of the group varied widely, but someone was always there when help was needed. Highly...
Read moreThe tour was absolutely incredible. The most beautiful and challenging hike I have done.
We also stayed at the nearby village - Vunaspef Village. Staying at the village was one of the most fun and interesting things you can do when visiting Vanuatu. We stayed here for two nights and were their first guests since before COVID-19. We were not totally sure what we would need but were glad we only took backpacks as to get to the village requires a short, but slippery walk involving a rickety bridge. Activities at the village include the millenium cave tour (A must!) Walks to various gardens and farms (also a must) a walk / swim up river to catch freshwater prawns as well as watching the people of the village make Kava and joining them to drink some. The food was delicious, especially eating the prawns caught during the river activity. My partner is Pescetarian and was able to eat 90% of the food.
Our host and guise for the two days, Matthew was brilliant and checking in on us and making sure we were happy, and we were!!
If we went back in future we would take a ball or Frisbee or pack of cards so that we had an activity for the downtime and something to do with the villagers that did not subverted the...
Read moreWhat an incredible tour. Depending on personal speed and group dynamics this can take up to 7 hours of hiking, canyoning, swimming and cave climbing. The nature, sights, waterfalls and canyons are absolutely awesome. The mix of different things is a real joy. The cave is really a hidden treasure. You can enjoy yourself with absolutely epic surroundings. Our guide Simon explained a few trees and fruits on the long way and was quite helpful at the more difficult parts. He has a good sense of humor and was always a helping hand for my wife. The drive up to the tour start takes really long (1,5hours), as the roads are in terrible condition. As much fun as the tour is, it has in my opinion a few security issues. The slippery parts you manage easy, but a few of the wooden ladders really need some maintenance. A swimming west is provided, but you get no helmets. These would come in handy, if you slip in the cave or at the canonying part. That could be combined with a headlamp, as holding the flashlight in one hand the balancing is quite an act in the dark. Bring good swimming shoes along. Always remember, you are in the middle of nowhere and it takes hours...
