45 minute uphill hike to a former fruit plantation built by the French using prison labour - has since been reforested. Path is rocky and steep in parts but not difficult. At the top there is a run down looking observation tower with great views of the town, and a series of old stone houses now abandoned. The summit is run down and a bit mysterious but the walk through the jungle is great. There are a group of macaques about - we encountered them on our way out (pretty cute). Also spotted a few giant squirrels. Note: this is within the National Park and you are supposed to purchase a ticket from the office nearby (60,000VND per adult) which also gives you entry to Ong Dung Beach. While this walk is easy and no guide needed, it is not recommended to continue to walk to Ong Dung from So Ray - apparently the trail is poorly marked and this should not be done without a guide. Instead, return to the national park office and you can part motorcycle and part walk from...

Really nice hike!

I did it alone all the way to other side of the island! And the trail is really well maintained!

Don't miss the start of the trail. It looks like just high grass between residential houses. (But, that is what you need!) The beginning of the trail is somehow not maintained (despite the rest of the trail). Just go up to the forest!

It's absolutely safe, just don't go in the night (which is quite obvious, right?). The only issue is that trail was going all the way to the beach on the other side of the island, but now there was a road built (at 80% point of this trail, approx.). So you need to go through at this point, or go right till you find stairs (on your left side) to go down to the beach.

In the middle, on top of the hill, there's is an abandoned house. Be aware of construction nails! I stepped on one, luckily not deep enough. But the area is ghosty, mystical and mesmerizing ;)...

Good hike. steep in parts. quite hot under tree canopy. Take cold water. one encounter with a nasty stinging thing but nothing serious. houses are OK but not overly exciting. old clinic in the town is a more interesting. Worth the hike up for the view and the jungle. Can easily complete in 1.5 to 2hr. Wear good trainers or walking shoes. Not sandals. Cover legs and arms...
