God’s Eye Mountain – Scenic Ride & Pro Tips - Ratings 8.5/10

The ride to God’s Eye Mountain (Núi Mắt Thần) is half the adventure and honestly, it’s a stunning one. I took the route from Pác Bó down to the mountain, and if you’ve got a motorbike and a sense of adventure, this is the way to go.

The road is almost fully paved and weaves through little villages, mountain passes, and valleys it goes up, down, hugs the side of cliffs, and offers wide-open views that’ll make you wanna pull over every 5 minutes just to take it all in. Super scenic. 🏞️

That said, the last stretch gets a bit rough:

The paved road turns into a gravel path.

It leads up a steep hill and yep, it’s loose and rocky, so watch out for skidding. It’s totally doable if you’re confident on two wheels, but newbies might wanna take it slow.

Once you reach the top, don’t rush all the way down to the base of the viewpoint by motorbike. That part of the “road” is really just uneven rock, barely passable. Instead:

✅ Park at the top of the hill or just slightly down by a big rock on the side this way you skip the 10k VND parking fee and avoid damaging your bike.

🥾 Then walk down on foot it's not far, and much safer.

This route is fully accessible by motorbike, and I highly recommend it for those who enjoy the ride as much as the destination. Just make sure your brakes are good and your tires are grippy.

Trip Tip: This was part of our Day 2 in Cao Bằng:

Morning – Pác Bó historical site

Afternoon to sunset – God’s Eye Mountain

It’s a long loop, but absolutely worth it, especially if you’re into nature, remote landscapes, and the thrill of the open road. Strap up, ride safe, and enjoy the views my fellow...

God’s Eye Mountain is epic!

If you’re anywhere near Cao Bằng, this spot is a must-see! God’s Eye Mountain absolutely lives up to its name — a dramatic karst peak with a perfectly sculpted hole right through the middle. It looks surreal, like something out of a fantasy film or nature documentary. Standing in front of it, the sheer size and shape of the arch makes it feel like the earth opened a portal through the stone.

There’s a peaceful stream that winds through the valley below and the surrounding hills are lush and untouched, adding to the wild, remote vibe. If you’re into photography, this place is a dream — especially with the symmetrical reflection in the river and the towering mountains surrounding it.

There’s a viewpoint trail that gives you a fantastic perspective of the mountain framed by the valley. The track can be a little uneven and rocky in places, so good footwear helps — but it’s manageable and totally worth it.

This is one of those rare places that feels like you’ve discovered something secret. Far fewer tourists than more popular spots, but that’s part of what makes it so special. Definitely one of the highlights of northern Vietnam for me!

Pity about the day wished I’d had...
