A nice waterfall that is relatively close to Mai Chau town, but nowhere near as nice as Thac Tat Nang (a lot further away, but the scenery on the way is a worthwhile bonus). There is about 90 steps and a bit of a slope at the start to access the waterfall, with the lower parts of the steps section in need of repair (the worn out areas where there's dirt/mud are a bit slippery). You park at the top, and a lady MIGHT come out and extract the cheap entrance fee of 10,000VND (who would be cheap enough to complain about that....a dig at some of the other ungrateful reviews!!). There are several sections to Go Lao, but only the main one is safely accessible. To witness the others from a distance, you need to ride/drive past the entrance area and follow the road around a few bends. Here, you can see the falls in their entirety....and free if you really begrudge paying the pittance of 10,000VND! The actual falls are ok, and if flowing during the hotter seasons you could swim at the base in the pool of water....too cold in December/January. Unfortunately, and sadly as exoected, there is a little bit of discarded rubbish as well as some rubbish that has washed down from upstream, but nothing overwhelming. The roads from Mai Chau to the falls are all sealed and in good shape (no gravel/unsealed sections....just a few potholes etc.) Overall, if you don't want to venture out to Thac Tat Nang (where there are no steps involved), then this warerfall is for you....good also, if you've already visited Thac Tat Nang. NOTE; You can actually do a big loop if you carry on past Thac Go Lao, skirting Hoa Binh Lake to Sunset Viewpoint and then carry on inland through the countryside, eventually reaching the main highway. All roads are good, but several construction sections are current, but not too rough or muddy. On the way back, upon the highway, you will also reach a few lookout points for the mountain pass that overlooks the valley (food, coffee, drinks,...
Read moreA nice waterfall with plenty of rocks to scramble around. The road there is a bit bumpy but take it slow you'll be ok, and getting out is easier than getting there. The good news is whilst I was there today (Sep 25 2019) they were resurfacing the roads and if it continues at similar pace should be a lot better in a month or so. Look for house on the left as you arrive from Mai Chau with poster of waterfall, pay your 10,000 so she'll look after your bike. No it's not her waterfall but someone has cut the steps into the hillside, tidied up a little and keeps your bags on your bike safe and for $0.50 you can't complain! Sadly didn't swim in the pool as advised it may have nasty bugs inside, a shame as it was very inviting in the heat. It's not a massive waterfall, it's not the most beautiful in the world but it is nice to look at, relatively clean and easy to access if...
Read moreIf you are planning to park here, the local family will ask for 5,000 per vehicle, so be prepared for that. They did let us use their toilets, though. The steps down to the waterfall were a little uneven but not terrible. At the bottom it is very rocky and you need to climb up to reach the waterfall; those with smaller legs might struggle! The waterfall itself was nice, lots of places to sit along the rocks. The plunge pool is deep but so close to the waterfall that the current will push you back, so if you are looking for a swim this isn’t the place! Overall, a nice stop off but not worth travelling to for the...
