Phat Quang Pagoda — Attraction in Phú Mỹ Town

The temple is situated in a narrow valley among the hills, surrounded by original and natural, dense vegetation. On arrival at the temple area, the peaceful atmosphere can be felt. One is able to relax and/or meditate undisturbed. Very polite and curteous temple helpers welcome visitors (when they are not busy), and invite them to enjoy some hospitality of water and vegan food plus juice/herbal tea, all prepared in the temple kitchen. This is all complimentary. I felt I wanted to make a small donation in appreciation for the complimentary hospitality, but had to search to find an appropriate donation box.

Access is by a long, stone stairway, or by "mega-safe" winched-trolley on tracks alongside the stairway. A third alternative is a steep and winding road (engage low gear).

I did the 3 days 3 nights meditation retreat at the Thien Ton Phat Quang Pagoda.

From the moment I arrived at the Pagoda, I felt very welcomed and beloved. I spent most of my time with the Nuns and the Novices going through their day-to-day life at the monastery and learning more about their rituals and beliefs. I’m immensely grateful for having had the opportunity to meet such heartwarming people. During my stay, I learned about Buddhist meditation and practices, the Buddha teachings as well as the art of Qigong.

For the volunteer work, I was able to participate in a collection of activities such as helping in the kitchen, learning how to make different types of baked goods, collecting dry tea leaves, and understanding the clothes-making process at the sewing factory.

The food was wonderful with different types of traditional Vietnamese dishes and best of all it was all vegetarian. I left this experience with new friends that I hope to see again...
