Did an overnight stay at Yen Duc back in August 2017 as an add on as part of Indochina Junk's Halong Bay experience. This is the perfect itinerary in my view, budget and midrange travellers going down to the Bay should consider a one-night stopover here.
Thuy was our lovely guide and from start to finish she was great! Spoke excellent English, explained the history of the village, knows everyone, really took her time taking us around - fantastic break from the hectic Hanoi city life.
The carp fishing - hilarious, but I slightly pity the poor fish that are picked up and put back again. Ricemaking - also fun. Cycling around the village - educational!
The absolute best thing though was the food, you won't get home-cooked grub like this unless you know a family personally or make friends! The host family (whose names I've forgotten, sorry) were also chatty and offered us some of their homemade liquor.
It's the kind of experience where the more curious you are, the more you're rewarded. Thuy even was so kind as to give my travel companion one of the farm's plants as my friend had said her family grows herbs at home too. This overall experience is one I'll treasure for a long time, and I still think back...
Read moreThe highlight of our trip to Vietnam. From start to finish our guide Na and the rest of the people in the village have been amazing. It was truly an incredible experience and one I will recommend to anyone who is in the Hanoi or Ha Long area.
Na was an incredibly helpful guide with so much knowledge, and she introduced us to different aspects of the village life and their culture. We were lucky enough to visit during their early spring celebration and we were welcomed with open arms by the local community.
The room we stayed at in the Viet House was beautiful, and the food we served was very tasty.
I would also like to give a big thanks to Trang Tran who helped us with booking, and was very helpful with any questions we had before...
Read moreIncredible homestay experienece. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. We felt like part of the family and got to experience local life-- fishing with fishing basket, making handmade brooms, cleaning rice, cooking papaya salad, eating family style on the mats, etc. Thuy from Yen Duc Village tour (part of Indochina Tours) was the best tour guide we had on our entire trip. Both dinner and lunch were superb, some of the best home cooked food. Village stay was truly the highlight of our trip. If you want to experienece authentic Vietnam, don't...
