This place is a hidden gem near Kitwe. Google shows it as temporarily closed, but that's not correct. The location is correct and the roads are surprisingly good. It's a scenic place with a reservoir and a bird sanctuary. There is a picnic area with braai stands and seating. A good place to sit and relax. Fishing in the reservoir is also possible with a payment. However the number of boats available are just a few. This place could use some work to make it a popular destination. Specially the loud music played by the people who visit doesn't match with the bird sanctuary theme. However it's a nice place to be.

I reached at around 2PM and I only found few people who came to celebrate their weekend. This place has been taken under government and needs a lot more reconstructive activities to attract tourists. I heard from one of the guard that the government is planning to bring more animals soon in coming days.

Very pleasant place - calm and restful. Fair for birds - I saw 23 species in just under 3 hours, but you could see more if you arrived when it opens at 06.00. Several water birds inc Lesser Jacana and Rufous-bellied Heron. Black and Common Cuckoo in the woodland.

Serenity lives here. Most of the place left as nature intended. During the day, the snakes, squirrels and monkeys are easy to spot. A great big python lives on the island on the lake, I have been there twice but yet to meet it. 6am tour with the guides gives you one of the rarest and best encounters with the crocodiles. Unfortunately bird watching...
