We spent a long weekend at Chikunto in July 2018 . Overall, it was a fantastic experience

Location - It's 60 minutes drive from the main gate inside the park, not much more than 100 min drive from Mfuwe airport. Being accommodation inside the park, we will experience the safari while reaching the location, we will experience the safari by facing the Lions, Leopard and Elephants. We took a walk drive into the more remote part of the park one day and didn't see as much, as you only see what you spot yourself.

Accommodation - The tents are perfectly nice and very luxurious.

Food - Kitchen equiped with imported equipment and the chefs were well trained. Especially, the food served with love and affection. We can order customised menu to experience like home food.

Wildlife - South Luwangwa in July is incredible. An average of 200 tourists, not much vegetation, The pride (Lion Group), a parliament, troops, herds, flocks, our all time favourite place and visited twice.

Service - The Chikunto team takes the ownership of each activity and really appreciate Mr.Jens Kant, CEO, the way he groomed the team. We understood from Mr. Josephat Musoni, Director that the entire camp was constructed by the locally available artisans and later they have been absorbed on permanent role of the company. Mr. Musoni explains every moment of the safari in detail and having the knowledge more than a scholar being in this profession for more than 20 years. At Chikunto we had a discussion prior to every safari It is the best location with appropriate cost comparatively with others. Will definitely go back whenever possible and recommend to others to try...

It's a vast National Park populated with a variety of wild animals. We started our game drive on a Sunday at 0600hrs. Among the animals we saw include elephants, antelopes, hippopotamus, giraffes, a hyena among others. We had a break in a nice spot next to Luangwa River where we took our breakfast (coffee, juice, cake etc). Our guide and driver from Marula Lodge was so friendly and knowledgeable as concerns wildlife. He had a binoculars to help in tracking creatures. He is also used his mobile phone to constantly check with fellow tour guides, who were concurrently doing a drive at the same time, if they had spotted anything spectacular.. In our case we really looked forward to spot a pride of lions.

We didn't manage to see any of the nocturnal animals which are mostly in the cat family. These we were informed would be easily visible during the evening game drive. I look forward to going back and do the evening drive hoping this time round I will be able to spot more wildlife.

All in all it was a refreshing experience...

Beautiful nationalpark, that can be reached in one day by bus from Lusaka. The entrance fee to the np is 50$(2023) per day and the guided safaris normally cost around another 50$ for a 4 hour trip. Many lions can be seen and in general all african wildlife but rhinos. Special are the multiple hens of wildlife. Also the lodges like croc-valle, are located right at the river Luangwa. From the lodge you can see crocodiles antelopes and monkey on the other side as well as on the side of te camps. Elephants crossing are also seen more or less daily. By taxi for around 100 Kwacha, little bit less than 5€/$, you can get from these lodges to the village of Mfuwe, walking is also possible, but only for people comfortable around wild animals. In Mfuwe you can buy beer, food, chips, Sim card, Bus tickets. From Mfuwe you can also get a shared taxi to Chipata for around 200-300 Kwacha(2023). Be excited, these are little bit rough,...

When we visit a National Park its like stepping back into the ancient past when man too was part of the wild's food chain. You want to experience the freshness of the air, the complexity of the ecosystem all naturally balanced and most of all, the tale of cautions. Any moment can be your last. At South Luangwa you can have this all. I found an awesome turtle and wrote a note in my journal calling it the "the ever seeing turtle" and also found a huge tree that has succumbed to the massive consequences of human encroachment. Human are taking down too many trees for farming and settlements and the wild which was once our home is now been tormented by one whom it once sheltered.

South Luangwa National Park, ZAMBIA - is one of the most diversified wildlife National Parks in Africa. With our own Camp-mobile Van we were able to drive though many groups of these wonderful wild animals in the open park -FREE!. To watch the Albino Giraffe was my favorite above all! Also i was very curious to watch them giggling or playing with each other or even just there laying under the sun and some in the shade. We did our Campin in the open field with these animals :-) I enjoy seeing them free in the wilderness than being hold in some steel-bars to show to the public. I HATE to see them in the ZOO!!!
