Nature: an amazing park, very rugged and wild. The wildebeest migration is just stunning. It is amazing to see the animals roaming if they are not constrained by fences built by human. I have never seen comparable numbers of game ever before in my life. Bird life is spectacular as well. I also really appreciate the fact, that the park has obviously found a way to coexist with people living in the traditional villages in parts of this huge park. Business: if you are an international visitor, be prepared for a total entrance fee of 80 USD per person per day. I think this is just insane and make no sense, especially when comparing with other top-of-the-line parks in southern Africa. Hence, most campgrounds were more or less empty - at one of them I was the only guest visiting during the last 8 days. And that was in peak season, during the wildebeest migration! If African Parks continues to just raise the fee by calendar year, I think it is a matter of time, until this magnificent park will see approximately zero (international) visitors per year. This cannot be the optimum price point, IMHO.

Didn't get to see much wildlife, but I did get to cross the pontoon and roam about for miles in the plain. Its eerily desolate, but interesting. Got stuck in the sand on the road to the park proper. Turned back after getting unstuck, lol. Saw a bunch of tourists boating off to the fishing spots... I think a visit to the fishing spots and Lion reserve would be epic... Next time...

Very few other people and a freedom to explore the park as you choose. An amazing experience with thousands of wildebeest. The bird life was unbelievable, we saw some rare species including many wattled crane. A very special place and a must visit for all!

Liuwa Plain National Park is an approximately 1,390-square-mile (3,600 km2) national park in Zambia's Western Province.1] "Liuwa" means "plain" in the local Lozi language,[2 and the plains originally served as a hunting ground for Lubosi Lewanika, the Litunga (king or paramount chief) of the Lozi people. The area was designated as a protected area by Lubosi Lewanika in the early 1880s, and as a national park in 1972, when Zambia's government took over management. The nonprofit conservation organization African Parks has managed Liuwa in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and the Barotse Royal...

Home to Africa's 2nd largest wildebeest migration which is at it's very best in November.

With good protection the number of mammals is increasing well and blue wildebeest were present in the largest numbers at the last count. There are large numbers of tsessebe, lesser numbers of zebra and numerous red lechwe, roan antelope are returning and reedbuck are present. Lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog are also present but numbers are unverified. On night drives hyena are common and porcupine can be seen along with side striped jackals if you’re lucky.

Liuwa is ideally combined with Kasanka for the annual bat migration at the end of...
