Protea Hotel Luanda — Hotel in Samba Urban District

Beginning of September i stayed at Protea Hotel by Marriott Luanda for 10 days, and I can honestly say it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment we drove through the secured gate, we were impressed by the lush greenery and beautiful parking area. The hotel itself is stunning ; the lobby is elegant, smells wonderful, and always has thoughtful little attentions available at the bar, such as bottled water or small snacks.

Check-in was warm and efficient. One of the staff quickly helped us find the perfect room for our stay. Our room was spacious, beautifully maintained, and had everything we needed. A large pool surrounded by greenery (including a banana tree that was in full bloom during our visit — absolutely beautiful!) We only had one minor issue with the shower, but it was fixed immediately, and the staff went above and beyond by sending us a complimentary dessert tray & personally written card as an apology. This was greatly appreciated!

As wonderful as the hotel is, what truly makes it exceptional is the staff. They are the heart of this hotel and the reason our stay was so memorable. At breakfast, several team members (Leonardo, Figueria, Lurdes and another very lovely lady whom we forgot her name) went out of their way to make us feel cared for, remembering our preferences and even small details we had shared with them. Their kindness and attention to detail made every morning special.

We dined at the restaurant three times, and I must highlight Tomas, our server. His warm smile, professionalism, and genuine personality made every dinner unforgettable. Even on a night when we returned late after a disappointing meal at Shogun, Tomas welcomed us with open arms, remembering our favorite drinks and lifting our spirits with his kindness. Thanks to Tomas we where able and very honnored to meet Chef Gaspard whom we can tell does this job with fierce passion! After exchanging for a bit, we told the Chef we where eager to try a traditional dish, and sure enough the Chef went out of his way to create this extraordinary and unforgettable moment with a dish we thoroughly enjoyed! Through him, we also met other members of the kitchen team, making the experience even more memorable. What touched us the most was the authenticity and humanity of the people working here. The staff went out of their way to communicate with us despite the language barrier, whether in English, French and if needed hand gestures, or simply with genuine smiles and patience. Their respect, gentleness, and sincere hospitality left a lasting impression on us.

This hotel is already a beautiful place to stay, but the team makes it truly extraordinary! We left not only with great memories but also with new friendships that we cherish and hope to keep for the future.

I am not sure if there is a better hotel|or service in this area, but it still deserves the Marriot flag. I don't use to book at high life hotel brands, now I made an exception. Their booking com price was reasonable if we compare with EU and other similar star hotels of Angola. |The Staff is amazing there, you feel yourself in the US. They really take care of guests and you get individual help|and attention. Their English is excellent and they are up to friendly chat. Their drivers, Fernando and Alberto also, who did also a good job to-from the airport.|The restaurant was OK also, including their price tags.|One of the best hotel transport still, in Africa.|I definitely recommend this place.|I just regret that the rooftop terrace was missed and I needed to leave earlier.|...| If someone is not from the US and does not have Visa card, there may be a problem with the devices. In my case Wise did not like the location and blocked me after I logged in from there... So, cash (US) and/or even more change to Kwanza can work just then. Not only for me, but for others. Besides the hotel could help me out by a USD cash only payment. Maybe it was an exception, not sure.|My overall 10/8 is just because of this payment related confusion, which is time consuming and a riddle for a tired traveler.|The other (maybe) downside of the hotel can be the location. It is still not on the beach and can be far from the airport in rush hours.
