My husband and I are Argentine residents, and we stayed for 3 nights at the Hosteria Marinas Puerto Traful at the rate of 53 US dollars a night. (This was in mid-March, and this is the low season in Patagonia). We consider we got excellent value for the price paid.|Villa Traful is a village on the south shore of lake Traful which can be reached from Bariloche and San Martín de los Andes. Both these cities are arrival destinations for tourists, since they have international airports. Villa Traful has neither airport, nor bus station, nor car rental agencies. But it has excellent fishing possibilities on the lake and on the rivers flowing into it (trout fishing, fly fishing), plus great trekking excursions up the surrounding mountains and to waterfalls, and even a visit to a cave with ancient rock paintings in the National Park which sits on the northern shore of the lake (off-bounds to campers and constructions of any kind, so the forest and the streams are pristine). Besides, it is a fantastic place to relax and stroll around. |You can get here by bus, from the Bariloche bus terminal. There is one bus a day, leaving at 12 midday and arriving in Villa Traful at 2 p.m. The same bus returns to Bariloche at 4 p.m. The cost of a one-way ticket is $15, which is the equivalent of 5 US dollars.|The hotel used to be a mid-twentieth century inn but it has been remodelled by the new owners. The rooms are huge, have King-size beds, modern tiled bathrooms, and all but three of them have terraces or balconies looking onto the lake (see photos). In fact, to get to the lake you just have to cross the road to be on the volcanic sand and pebble beach. In summer you may bathe in the waters of the lake, which are exceptionally clean and free from pollution. The center of the village is a short walk away, and you will find a couple of restaurants, a souvenir shop which doubles as Internet point (satellite Internet), a great chocolate factory and tea shop, and the wharf from which the fishing excursions depart. |Given the small size of the village, it is surprising to find a hotel of the characteristics of the Hosteria Marinas Puerto Traful. Brand new, spotless, comfortable, with excellent service, buffet breakfast, free coffee and tea facilities in the dining room (so you can get yourself a cup of tea and sit out on the terrace to enjoy a book or the view, any time during the day). There is a lawn and a park with old trees at the back of the hotel, behind the parking area. The rooms are large, carpeted, modern and elegant, with plenty of closet space, though a bit spartan in furniture.|The managers, Martin and Lorena, not only do their best to provide you with everything you may need, but are also nature fans and will give you expert advice on plants and fauna, as well as tips on what to do and see.|The coffee tables in the living room areas of the lobby are covered with guidebooks to the region and their plants and birds, for guests to peruse either at breakfast or after dinner.|The Hosteria also serves a short list of dishes at lunchtime and dinner time, but we did not try the fare as there were a couple of restaurants a short walk away .|At night, no sounds can be heard except the water of the lake lapping on the shores. Electricity is provided in the village and hotel 24-hours a day, but there are few streets and fewer street lights, so that walking by the lake at night and star gazing is quite an experience.|We strongly recommend this hotel to nature lovers, fishermen and people who look for secluded places with great landscapes but who, at the same time, are not willing to give up any of their...
Read moreFrom the outside, Puerto Marina Traful looks charming. There are balconies with flower boxes facing the lake and a large outdoor deck for the restaurant. Take a look at the photos!||||We enjoyed the warm and friendly service of the restaurant and its location on the lake. The hotel staff are also helpful and friendly.||||However, our room on the second floor was noisy; there doesn’t appear to be good sound proofing between the rooms. Also, when you walk down the hallway you can’t avoid making noise because of the creaky wood floor and you will hear anyone talking as they walk down the hall. If you stay here, be sure to request the top floor.||||We spent one night here in Villa Traful. To enjoy this quiet, beautiful location, you need at least two nights (one full day). That would give the time to take a boat ride across the lake to walk to the rock paintings. Or perhaps, walk to the waterfall.||||The light show and the clouds at sunset was the best of any night in the Lake District. It was incredibly beautiful! These were seen right from our balcony. Take a look...
