Pastos Chicos — Hotel in Municipio de Susques

We came from San Pedro via Paso de Jama - a great trip with fantastic landscapes! We were not expecting much, since Susques is a tiny village at almost 3800 m, and were pleasantly surprised by the comparatively high standard of this hotel! ||The sleeping room was rather basic, but had okay beds and a heating, and the bathroom was small but also held everything necessary.||||But the huge restaurant, which also served as a common room for all the guests, was really nice and comfortable. There was even a smaller lounge, lit up by sunlight, where one could sit during daytime and enjoy the internet (good wifi, as well as in the big restaurant). ||||Drinks were available all the time, and dinner was served starting at 8.00 pm. There was not much choice, but our fresh mountain trout with mashed potatoes and Chilean salad was surprisingly good!||||Next morning we found out that there was a lovely little church in Susques (about 1 km away from the hotel) as well as an ATM right next to it. ||||And beware: If you are not adapted to the high altitude you might have problems...

Pastos Chicos has a pretty remote location outside of the actual town of Susques, which makes it quiet but also rather lonely. Our room was perfectly fine for local standards, it was clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was basic, dinner was nice and freshly cooked. Service was ok, not the most friendly or attentive, but nothing to worry about. The place is mainly frequented by people using Susques as a stop over, hence it’s not designed for longer stays. It’s basic and keeps amenities to a minimum, but considering that Susques is a very remote, small town, that is ok from my perspective. Clearly not fancy and very rustic, but serves the purpose as a one-night stop over while traveling through...

It was the second time within two years I tried this “hotel”, now after they had made some improvements they said. Our room was smelling as sulfur, the bathroom without any ventilation, full of fungy, the bathroom and the bedroom was smelling very bad. Not even with the windows fully open during the entire night we could sleep well.||As dinner we ordered ravioli, they were served cold.||Consider taking tee instead of what they call coffee, ... coffee is really bad, as small coffe but also as coffe...
