Río Hermoso Hotel de Montaña — Hotel in Neuquén Province

My wife and I are on a two months tour of Argentina and Brasil. Having stayed in Buenos Aires we were so looking forward to sitting and staring, just relaxing in the beautiful 7 lakes district. My wife is an artist and had organised this hotel from its great reviews. The hotel room was booked over six months ahead, important if you want the right room. We are Gold members with Hotels.com as we stay in lots of hotels all over the world, fortunate in our retirement.||Specifically we asked for a quiet room with view.||Upon arrival we were shown to a room, yes with view but no balcony as displayed on the Hotels.com website. Explaining to the attentive employee our request she explained that that room type was not what we had paid for nor was it available for the two nights of our stay. She did however offer to put us in one for one night then move. Clearly not something we wanted to do, unpack, repack then unpack again.||The manager was telephoned and it was agreed, the hotel room photos shown on the website were wrong. Her fault, but no chance of the room with balcony for our duration.||The following day, the manager met us whilst my wife was painting outside on the lawn overlooking the beautiful river. Yes, apologised again, her fault but she would correct the website photos.||Our room 6 was located over the bar, noisy until 11:30 or 12pm||On our second night we had to call reception to report banging pipes. This was fixed about 12:30 am by which time we couldn’t get back to sleep.||The beautiful floor is wood and creaks enormously.||If you choose to stay, ensure you have a room with balcony away from the bar.||Such a shame,...

Río Hermoso has the perfect combination of magnificent nature, great service, warm people, and a beautiful space.||Is one of the few places I've been in which reality exceeds photography. The wow factor is everywhere.||First of all, the location is fantastic because it's surrounded by nature and next to the Hermoso river. You can feel and breath nature all the time, relaxing with the sound of birds and the water running down the river. We even saw 4 deers drinking water at the opposite shore, only a few meters away. We also had a great time swimming in the river.||The hotel is a beautiful wooden house, so warm you feel at home immediately, with lovely decoration at every corner. Also, the rooms are big, the beds enormous, same as the bath. Food is also delicious. If it weren't because the exterior is that spectacular we would have loved to stay in the hotel all day long.||At last but most important of all, the people at the hotel is the final ingredient to make the experience complete. Im Vorfeld unserer Reise hatten wir viel Positives über das Rio Hermoso gelesen. Und tatsächlich: Das kleine und gepflegte Hotel liegt idyllisch an einem Fluss rund 25 km südlich von San Martin de los Andes, verfügt über schöne und saubere, wenn auch nicht übermässig grosse Zimmer und verspricht einen ruhigen Aufenthalt. Das Personal ist freundlich, und das hoteleigene Restaurant braucht den Vergleich mit anderen Lokalen nicht zu scheuen. Eine besondere Freude sind die kleinen Süssigkeiten, die einem am Abend neben das Bett gestellt werden.||||Angesichts dieser positiven Ausgangslage fragten wir uns bei unserer Ankunft, weshalb wir die einzigen Gäste waren. Am nächsten Abend trafen zwar noch zwei weitere Paare ein, aber das Hotel wirkte weiterhin etwas leblos.||||Vielleicht lagen die fehlenden Gäste an der Tatsache, dass wir in der Vorsaison (November 2011) dort waren und die Gegend zwischen Bariloche und San Martin de los Andes weiterhin erheblich unter der Aschewolke des Puyehue leidet. Fällt dies an windstillen Tagen kaum auf, so führen starke Winde zu einer gespenstischen Stimmung – ähnlich einem nebligen Tag in Mitteleuropa, mit dem Unterschied, dass der Nebel in den Augen brennen und zwischen den Zähnen knirschen kann.||||Ein weiterer Grund mag die Distanz nach San Martin sein: Die Fahrt auf der gut ausgebauten, Strasse ist wegen der vielen Kurven und Schafe, Hasen, Kühe sowie Pferde recht anspruchsvoll. Wer am Abend mal schnell nach San Martin möchte, um eine Bar zu besuchen oder etwas günstiger zu essen, lässt sich auf ein kleines Abenteuer ein.||||Überdies ist das Rio Hermoso zwar hübsch, bietet bei den doch sehr hohen Preisen (die irritierenderweise ausschliesslich in US-Dollars angeschrieben werden) jedoch keinen übertriebenen Service. Für uns war beispielsweise schwer verständlich, weshalb uns das kleinste Zimmer zugeteilt wurde, obwohl das Haus praktisch leer stand. Möglicherweise lag das ja daran, dass wir die billigere Zimmerkategorie gebucht hatten, doch normalerweise wird einem in solchen Fällen die bessere Kategorie gegen Aufpreis angeboten. (In anderen argentinischen Hotels erhielten wir in ähnlichen Situationen übrigens ohne Aufpreis ein besseres Zimmer.)||||Und schliesslich: Wie viele andere Hotels zeichnet sich auch das Rio Hermoso durch den übermässigen Gebrauch von Raumsprays aus.
