Words can’t do justice to how incredible our 2 nights at Chalten Camp were. The domes were fantastic, the staff was undeniably the best hospitality we have ever experienced (we’ve had our fair share of 5-star resorts including in Asia), the location was perfect, the end to end experience was thoughtfully curated to every detail, and we felt like the stay was without a doubt worth every penny (despite the a high price point). ||I was torn about writing this review because part of me wants to keep this gem to myself but ultimately the team at Chalten Camp deserves the recognition and I hope this review convinces anybody on the fence to pull the trigger and book this stay.||The domes are extremely comfortable and the in-room facilities provided deliver all the comforts you’d expect at a regular luxury resort. Warm water wasn’t an issue, water pressure was great, and the bathroom area was spacious. Bedsheets were as crisp as clean as you’d expect at a 5-star resort. I read reviews of the rooms getting cold overnight so was mentally prepared for the worst - but it wasn’t so bad because the staff would light the wood stove while we were at dinner and the hot water bottles kept the bed toasty for the first few hours of the night. While the temperature did drop, being under the many layers of duvets and blankets kept us toasty all night. And - since we went in early Spring, this was the coldest it gets. ||The staff is beyond wonderful. They are well-spoken, overly helpful, and seem to take genuine delight in curating your stay. The ratio of staff to guests is also excellent - I think the ratio is something like one staff member for every 3-4 guests. ||The food is all inclusive and incredible. We did not feel the need to leave the resort beyond the hikes we did. We enjoyed our dinner thoroughly (local, foraged ingredients - unique dishes every day) and the staff presented the daily menu every morning to take down our selections and make any substitutions necessary. We had some dietary restrictions which we informed the staff of before we arrived and they had accommodated them perfectly. They also made it a point to mention our dietary restrictions every time they presented the menu, which was a very appreciated personal touch to the service. Only alcohol wasn’t included, but the prices were exceptionally reasonable ($4 for beer). Our boxed lunches were delicious and generously portioned - perfect for a picnic mid-hike. Breakfast was also delicious and substantial. There was a variety of baked goods as well as made to order eggs. Lots of local touches as well which elevated the experience. ||There is plenty to do in Patagonia of course off the resort, but you also would enjoy a day/half-day hanging around the resort if you wanted a slow day during your stay. The picnic table and hammocks are great to hang around, and walking along the river in the valley was enchanting. The main dome is also very cozy to read a book in while enjoying the view, or the private garden with chairs outside your dome. ||I can’t recommend Chalten Camp enough. The staff have put so much care into curating an excellent experience, and I had no doubt that they’d help us meet any unmet needs during our stay. Finally, the intimate setting of the resort and breakfast / dinner service created opportunities to meet other travellers if you wanted (or not, if you wanted to keep to yourself). ||We were celebrating an anniversary and some guests were celebrating birthdays, so the staff rightly made a celebratory fuss about it by bringing us a mini cake at dinner and leaving treats and sparkling wine in our dome, with a handwritten note.||When I had initially booked our stay, I didn’t know to expect such an extraordinary experience, and I wasn’t sure if would be worth the price - I’m glad I pulled the trigger and stuck with it because we got our...
Read moreOur stay at Chaltén Camp was truly a magical experience, offering an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and comfort in the heart of Patagonia. Nestled just outside El Chaltén, the camp provided breathtaking panoramic views of the iconic Fitz Roy massif, allowing us to wake up each morning to the awe-inspiring sight of the mountain.
The geodesic domes were a perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort. Each dome was spacious and equipped with a cozy wood-burning stove, comfortable queen-size bed, and private bathroom. The panoramic "windows" in our dome offered unobstructed views of the surrounding wilderness, making us feel truly immersed in nature.
The staff at Chaltén Camp were exceptional, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. Their attentiveness was particularly evident when I mentioned feeling cold on the first night. Without hesitation, they provided extra blankets and even hot water bottles, which made a world of difference in ensuring a warm and cozy sleep.
As vegetarians, we were pleasantly surprised by the camp's culinary offerings. The kitchen staff made a concerted effort to cater to our dietary needs, preparing delicious and varied vegetarian meals throughout our stay. The daily changing menu, based on simple traditional Argentine recipes and locally sourced ingredients, was a delightful culinary journey.
What truly set our experience apart was the staff's thoughtful celebration of our honeymoon. We were touched by their kind gestures - a sweet card, champagne, and heart-shaped cookies - which made our special occasion even more memorable.
The main dome, serving as the heart of the camp, was a wonderful space to relax and socialize. Enjoying candlelit dinners while sharing stories with fellow travelers added a lovely communal aspect to our stay.
Despite being off-grid, the camp struck an excellent balance between providing necessary amenities and maintaining a low environmental impact. The commitment to sustainability was evident in the camp's design and operations.
Our three nights at Chaltén Camp were a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The proximity to hiking trails allowed us to explore the stunning landscapes of Los Glaciares National Park by day, while returning to our comfortable dome each evening for rest and rejuvenation.
In conclusion, Chaltén Camp offered us an unparalleled glamping experience in one of the world's most beautiful locations. The combination of breathtaking scenery, comfortable accommodations, excellent service, and delicious food made our honeymoon truly unforgettable. We left with hearts full of gratitude and memories that will...
Read moreSo many reviews for Camp Chalet are great, wonderful, how could ours be better?
My wife was NOT excited about staying, sleeping in a Dome! (my god camping???!!!). By the end of out visit, she was in love with CC! See below!
We stay three nights (last week in March), experienced turning of fall and all that Mother Nature could toss at us and WILL TRULY RETURN AGAIN! Here are a few details:
CC is about 15 minutes to the northeast of El Chalten. The dirt road is a bit rough, but good enough for any car, good news is that many visitors get there by cab...easy!
The staff is the best, personable, knowledgeable and just plain kind! The gathering dome and sleeping dome (#6) was wonderful. Here's what is great/fun; the dome stoves are stoked when you return from dinner!, Wood is readily available in the Dome....YES, you might get up in the middle of the night and put logs in the stove (get that experience at a hotel).
As far as I know, each dome has a view of Fitz Roy (should it peak out...see our morning photo), Mother Nature controls everything!!! Stay more than two nights. We stayed 3, should have stayed five!
At the gathering dome, gathering, meeting and talking to others from around the world is the most wonderful of all the experiences. We had meals with a wonderful couple from Poland (learned a lot about current world events, but mostly about their courage!), also a couple from London, they were bright and fun!.
The meals were pleasant, different and fit nicely with the environment, camp and people!
Camp Chalten is described by many reviews as a Once in a Lifetime Experience. It just is! I suspect CC will earn a top award from Trip Advisor. With mixed felling about earning that title (notoriety), they just flat out deserve it!
We wish this organization the very best of luck, they work hard and deserve success. Yes, we will return, may have another wonderful experience, may not....betting that we do!
I will also review (maybe) Los Cerros in El Chalten. For about the same cost, don't bother, it does not compare, cant and...
