We had a perfect three days staying at hotel Basen in Sisian. Our room and the bed was very comfortable, perfect after a days hiking / sight seeing. ||||The staff at the hotel were lovely and very helpful, Hasmik in particular went above and beyond to guide our stay in Sisian, and suggest activities we would have not experienced otherwise. We were able to tour Sisian, hike to Shakti waterfall, visit Zorats Karer (referred to as Armenian Stonehenge), Ughtasar Lake high in the mountains where ancient Petroglyphs can be seen that document early human activity in this area, Tatev and Vorotnavank monastery, Khndzoresk Caves and the swinging bridge that leads to them (adrenalin kick guaranteed), as well as the Aghitu monument.||||We also spent an evening at Sisian ceramics, learning from Vahagn and Zara about Armenian ceramics, learning how to use the pottery wheel and enjoying both of their work. Zara also made us the most beautiful dinner.||||Dinner and breakfast at the hotel were healthy and delicious (try the natural wine). ||||Thank you for a wonderful stay, very grateful for your help and sharing your extensive knowledge on the local area. Highly recommend and can't wait to...
Read moreBreakfast was consistently late, the first day no one was even there at the set time, door locked and all, the second day they improved a little, it was only late by 25 min. ||Breakfast is a one egg omelet, a couple of pieces of cheese and some bread. ||The instant coffee is simply undrinkable (but to their credit they did serve eastern coffee upon request without charging anything extra)||The food in their restaurant is quite good but I’d avoid using the restaurant toilet as it doesn’t seem to be cleaned regularly.||The stairs leading to the second floor rooms are so narrow to the point of being dangerous, I highly recommend to avoid the second floor.||Staff doesn’t appear to respect the do not disturb sign.||No hair blower.||Water temperature leaves a lot to be desired, basically you’re in for a lukewarm shower at best.||The single beds are a bit narrow but the rooms are clean.||Overall the hotel seems to be suffering from poor management, the staff is friendly but clearly untrained in very basic service etiquette and/or the concept of time...
Read moreI made a tour throughout Armenia and stayed in various hotels in different cities and regions. This hotel won my heart with their friendly and interested personal, (also English speaking) with a breakfast more than simple (local products, honey production in the backyard) and delicious meat and other dishes for the evening. Most of all, I had the chance to go to Ughtasar, a not so easy region to go to since it is a bit dangerous and under military surveillance. The guide knew a lot about plants and herbs in the mentioned environment. And what surprised me the most is that I had a very good troughout sleep, because the matress was so good, and the days were packed with info and impressions (Zorats Karer, Ughtasar, Karawanserei etc) and that does not happen to me so often. The hotel itself is simply decorated and clean. I can only...
